What is it about a book that makes it better to read in trade Vs. better to read in single issues?
I read very few books month to month. I read almost everything in a trade or 5 single issues of one book in a sitting mostly because my short term memory is so bad that I have a hard time remembering what I read last month. Plus I read so many books that I just can't keep up.
Sooo...... I'm curious, is trade waiting so common because of the way books are written or because of situations like mine.
and..........
...
wait for it.....
...
go!

I'd say it's a little bit of both for me. There are titles that read better in trade because of the way they're written and after trying out an single issue or two, I'll decide whether or not to trade wait. Other times it's a budget issue and I'll trade wait titles I know don't need the immediate support.

My experience is that Marvel / DC reads fine in single issues, except maybe Hickman or Remender. Image tends to be the only trades I buy, because their stories seem to be more complex and are enhanced by reading them in large chunks.

There are comic books stores that would deliver to me but due to my non-Japanese citizenship I cannot get a credit card, I don't really need/want one anyways. I buy trades off of Amazon with Amazon gift cards that are available at any convenience store in Japan. That is my first reason, geographic location. The second is the ads. I hate ads in comics. I started collecting in the late eighties and I hated ads then, I hate adds now. There are no ads in trades, whee! As for the issue of reading five issues in one go, that is what I don't do. When I buy a trade, regardless of company, I read one issue a week. Sometimes I skip a week. I find that it makes the experience and joy of comics better. I just read issue nine of Remender's Uncanny X-Force omnibus and have thought of nothing but for the past week. The third reason only applies to Marvel and only to the hard cover trades that Marvel puts out. They have free digital codes on them. So I can read comics when I am at work or on the bus. Pretty cool. All in all I am all for trades.

I've gone to heavy trade reading just because of time and funds. I might read maybe 4 comics issue by issue now. It's cheaper in the end plus lately I find myself not reading as much per week. Also storage is a big role for me now, I have too many long boxes taking up space so trades limit that and look better on shelves. Books like Walking Dead and East of West are a big example of stuff thats better read in chunks.

I've always preferred trades mainly because I'm impatient and would rather enjoy an entire story on my time than wait for new issues and because I like to display my books nicely on my shelf, so trades look better.
Since having a kid (money sucking tiny person), my new approach is reading issues by issue digitally, then buy the trades of my favorites.
