Yeah you're absolutely right Bob, while we had the ball most of the time and had a LOT of opportunities it just didn't happen. And like you said, van Persie just couldn't get the job done.
Then it came down to penalty's and i thought its done, we're out of it, because of our bad experiences with penalty's. But our coach van Gaal made another great move by putting in the other keeper Krul(who they now call penalty killer!)and he freaking stopped two of them!
Up next: Argentina(oh man i'm nervous already)

Congratulations, and I'll be rooting for your side...except against Germany, of course!

Ok back from my mini vacation and well intense games all this weekend!!! Brasil vs Colombia was good but it was soured down by a horrible referee and the injury that Neymar got, their game against Germany will be difficult (Da Silva was also injured?).
Germany vs France was the dull one IMO from all the games, not much to say about this one.
Argentina vs Belgium was interesting, that early goal was great and well...the Argentinians have another man down due to an injury.
And finally, Netherlands vs Costa Rica....wow, this game was SOOOOO intense! Los Ticos have to be incredibly proud just to make it this far and hold Netherlands until penalties and honestly if Navas was rested, who knows who would won.
I can't wait for the semi-finals!!!

on my pre-cup bracket I had Germany/Brazil on one side of the semis, and Belgium/Spain on the other, with a Germany/Spain final, and Deutschland lifting the cup. Clearly, the right side of the bracket was unkind to me.
In terms of who i'd like to see go all the way? At this point, i'd love to see the Argentines lift it; i've always loved Messi, and he's playing well. Either they or the Germans would be just fine by me.

At this point I either see the Germans or Argentinians winning the whole thing....at least I believe the final will be against these two.

Germany Blitzkrieged through Brasil! I thought this was going to be the most competitive match haha Nick, I never would have predicted that result, although it did make for a fun afternoon at the pub! I think tomorrow's match will be a nail-biter, though!

While I expected Germany to beat Brasil...I never expected the massacre that I just witnessed. I can't believe how bad Brasil played and how dependent on Neymar they seemed today.

7-1 is the equal biggest defeat the Brazilian soccer team have ever had.
The other was in 1920 when they lost 6-0 to Uruguay

I feel like they missed Thiago Silva even more. The esprit de corps and the defense was absolutely ashambles from the first.

Couldn't believe what I watching. Can't help but thinking Brazil got what they deserved last night. Luiz was lucky to stay on the pitch again after his usual elbowing tactics. I think the ref punished him by leaving him on the pitch. Looking forward to the game this evening, which should be competitive. To hard to call, but I'd like to see a Holland Germany final.

Another fact about Brazil
There own goal in the opening game against Croatia was the teams first own goal at any world cup (and they have been to all of them).

And after an intense game that went to the penalty round, Argentina (thanks to their goalkeeper which acted great in that round!) moves onto the final. Is Europe vs Latin America in the finals!!!
Brasil now has to face Netherlands for the 3rd place....and gain some face with the country.
