So the first issue of this came out last week and I'm surprised noboy has really been talking about it as it had some HUGE huge moments. As somebody who has had to play catch up with the Ultimate Spidey side of things, it feels great to catch this from the start and have something to look forward to. I'm also currently 10 volumes into the original run and seeing all the older characters grow as well as newer characters deal with them is really great to see.
I figure spoilers are allowed to be discussed but just in case anybody else hasn't read it yet so spoilers will be mentioned at the bottom
I'm worried this series is going to fall INTO the sidelines as nobody has been talking about this book. it has been so consistent in quality from issue #1 back in 2000 to now and that is something that cant be said for any other series. Also so many people are disappointed with the lack of diversity in lead comic characters, and the introduction of Miles Morales really did a lot in changing that. Not only for just being a Black/Hispanic Spider-Man, but being an interesting character and in a well written book.
As I've mentioned in previous threads, Ultimate Spider-Man has become MY Spider-Man. All the supporting characters feel real to me, I feel emotionally attached not just to Peter, and not Miles, but all of the supporting characters. Every decision in these books feel permanent and therefore much more poignant. And we're not dealing with a ridiculous amount of crossovers/events/fake deaths/brain swaps/clones/future versions etc.
Anyway
*SPOILERS*
So Norman Osborne is back. He was more terrifying in this issue than in any story I've read of him. And he only had 1 line (2 but the same thing) Also it reminded me of the closing panels of Death of Spider-Man, where are having just having your heart broken by seeing Peter die, you see that small smirk come across the nearly unconcious Normans face which just made me furious in the best way possible. And nothing came from that so its good to see a follow through from that ending.
Also that closing page!!!!! I seriously doubt its the ACTUAL Peter Parker as the Ultimate Universe has a good track record of making everyone that dies stay dead which I think makes this universe a lot more personal and important than the 616.
What did everyone else think of this book?
