Drocat,
I do buy mostly "capes'n'cowls", but as you've probably heard I'm a big fan of "The Avengers" (the Steed & Mrs. Peel variety) and Honey West, and I not only own all the Bond films, but all the Fleming novels, too, so Velvet isn't so far afield for me as you'd think. It was very well done, with tons of atmosphere, and a couple of nice switches-on-switches. I just have the feeling that (as so many indies do) it will read better as a "novel" than as a series of short stories.
Thanks for the welcome, by the way!

Hey Ryan,
Welcome to this corner of Talking Comics!
A quick recommendation: when you finish the Morrison Doom Patrol, see if your local store or Library has any trades on the original Arnold Drake/Bruno Premani Doom Patrol for you to thumb through. They were some of DC's best books during the Silver Age, and you might find them interesting!
ps) The new Ms. Marvel's power set is very much akin to Ms. Rita Farr of the DP, whose super-heroic code name was...Elasti-Girl! rrr

Joe,
Welcome to the Forums! I think you're our first member from that new "Capital of Comics", Portland, Oregon!!
I'm also a big horror buff (sitting atop my old-fashioned glass-doored bookcase is a bust of Cthulhu!), so those pieces of yours strike a responsive chord! Is the "House on Haunted Hill" bit from the original or the remake?

Is the "House on Haunted Hill" bit from the original or the remake? the Original, Vincent Price or nothing! Honestly I'm very biased against remakes and typically won't even give them the time of day. Also, thank you for the kind welcome Bob! You're definitely one of my favorite podcast personalities, I love listening to what you have to say and finding out about past treasures that I need to dig up. I've always had a love for Galactus but until I heard you talking about it I never actually read the original story (and more), I owe that to you. Thank you!

Joe,
Thanks for the kind words; it is my pleasure to throw some of the weird stuff in my head out there--I'm so glad you find it of interest!
The original House on Haunted Hill is one of my favorites, and for my money, still one of the scariest, creepiest movies ever! That you have a memento from that amazing Frank Lloyd Wright house--WOW!!!!
The Cranky Old Uncle Bob list of remakes worth seeing (Not counting silent-to-sound, straight-to-musical like Ninotchka to Silk Stockings, or things like The Maltese Falcon, where no one remembers the originals!)
The Thing (d. John Carpenter)
The Fly (d. David Cronenberg)
The Blob (d. Chuck Russell)
My Bloody Valentine (d. Patrick Lussier)
Mighty Joe Young (d. Ron Underwood)
War of the Worlds (d. Steven Spielberg)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (d. Phil Kaufman)
Let Me In (d. Matt Reeves)
On the non-genre front:
Ocean's Eleven (d. Steven Soderbergh)
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (d. David Fincher)
Of Human Bondage (1964/d. Ken Hughes; starring Kim Novak and Laurence Harvey)
What do you think?

Elasti-Girl! rrr Thanks, Bob! Apparently, Morrison's was the only run which Drake believed had the spirit of his run. I'm thinking that Drake's will be quite similar, only a bit more tame in its narration. And hey, you've got to admire a guy who decided to kill off the entire team when his series was cancelled.

Ryan,
I did a bit on Talking Comics some while ago about the "end" of the Doom Patrol in their issue #121, that shocked my colleagues!
I met Arnold Drake some years ago at a con in NYC (where he signed my copy of "The Flesh Eaters", a movie he produced in the 60s!), where he also said nice things about what was the current run of Doom Patrol, a re-booted "classic" version by John Byrne.
The Drake/Premani DP was the most "Marvel" of all DC's titles throughtout that period, so not quite as staid as the rest!

Wanted someplace intelligent to come talk about comics, love the site and the podcast.
I've been hooked on this thing called comics since Chris Claremont got me to fall in love with a thirteen year old girl from Deerfield Illinois.
Looking forward to engaging conversations..

Bob,
Thanks for the welcome. It took awhile to get all the books but I couldn't resist. They certainly aren't in mint condition, but I got them to read, not to sit on a shelf untouched.

Colby,
My Bond books are from the Seventies, as I read my original set into oblivion! My "Colonel Sun" is an original, though!
