Hello all!
My name is Josh and i've been reading comics for about 20 years now. Which is weird to say since im only 28, ha ha. My first comic was an X-men book but from that point on it was very random. For a long time I got whatever books my Grandmother saw and thought I would like. So one week it might be Superman and the next it could be Batman. But that's really where my love for comic books starts and has never stopped.
Currently im read alot of stuff, from Image, DC, marvel, and every other indy publisher. My rule is that if it looks interesting, try it.
Not sure what else to say but thats me, haha.

Josh, Welcome to the Forum! You've got a simple but great rule going about how to select what books to read, so keep it up! You can also use it to de-select titles, as when they're notinteresting, you can dump them!

Hello everyone! My name is Steven, from Toledo OH. I have been reading comics since around 1977. I remember my first comic I "collected" was the Marvel Star Wars series (the original one). That movie led me into the world of Marvel and DC. Now almost 37 years later (=/- a few years) I still collect comics and have a collection of over 20,000. I recently discovered the podcast "talking comics" and listen to parts of it every night during my nightly walk. Love it. I look forward to participating in the forum!

Steven, A warm welcome to the Forum, particularly as you're a veteran collector! There are quite a few of around here, plus many younger women and men who find themselves drawn to those "thrilling days of yesteryear", as they used to say on the "Lone Ranger" radio show. Here's hoping you've kept those original Star Wars books in mint condition; I've a feeling their value is going to soar!

It's always great to hear from a reader who still has a passion for the titles that got the started! (if you can, support that new store, as so many small businesses don't survive their first year, and most particularly by pre-ordering titles!)

Oh I do support the store...(far more than my wife would like, lol) Previously receiving monthly boxes from the UK drove the price right up. I also do a a fair amount to try and spread the love too

Hey all how's it going. I'm really new to the world of comic books, mostly just watched the movies and t.v shows for, well forever. Got my first comic last Christmas and have been hooked ever since. (If anybodies interested it was Batman City of Owls. Best story ever!) Name: Daniel Where I'm From: Middle of Nowhere, Ireland. How I got into Comics: Corny as it is to say i loved the Judge Dredd movie with Stallone as a kid, from there i went to Batman and never looked back. Got my first Comic last year when i was home from college and now have the startings of a collection. What I'm Reading Now: Batman and Judge Dredd mostly. Been trying to veer away from Dredd and the DC verse so have been buying some others. The list of comics i want to read is enormous. I also want to try and write one so should probably branch out a bit . Prized Geek Possession: Its not really a possession as such but i have a collection of around three hundred novels (I kind of like collecting stuff), fiction/non-fiction, most of which i have read and they would be my most prized possession.

Daniel, Welcome to the Forum! Just because you feel that you started from a bad jumping-on point doesn't make your "origin story" any less valid than anyone else's! So many of our members came to the actual books from other media that it's a very familiar story around these parts!

Thanks Bob, so what comics would you recommend Daniel, I'm a bit adrift of late on some titles that were my go-to books due to the "Secret Wars" thing, so with Marvel, I've found great enjoyment on the more fringe-y titles. On books that are just re-started (or about to...hurray!) whose pre-SW runs were stellar as well, I'd recommend Ms. Marvel and Silver Surfer, and on new launches, I'd add Dr. Strange and The Ultimates. If you wanted something kookier, both Squirrel Girl and Howard the Duck are fun reads that require little preparation, excepting a sense of humour! Of course, although both books are in different hands now, my heartiest recommendations would go to the just-closed-out Matt Fraction/David Aja Hawkeye and Kelly Sue DeConnick Captain Marvel runs. Similarly with DC, i'm on the smaller books, so Gotham Academy, DC Bombshells, and the sadly-cancelled Sensation Comics would head the list, and although I'm really enjoying Secret Six, it might be tough on a newer reader, although the brand-new (and high concept!) Art-Ops shouldn't be! As many have and will continue to point out, it's with the indie publishers where you can jump into new books that don;t require any set-up, and you've already heard about some that I would have chosen, including Death Vigil, Lady Killer, and Saga, and I would add Pretty Deadly, Rocket Girl, and Velvet to the mix, along with newcomer Paper Girls from Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang. Best of luck!

Thanks Bob sounds like a great line up. Definitly going to check some of them out. I heard Saga is meant to be very good.
