Just got another six episodes ordered from FOX, bringing the first season up to 22 episodes. I watched the NYCC panel livestream w/Danny Cannon, Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Erin Richards, Sean Pertwee and (the adorable!) Robin Lord Taylor and will be talking about that in my show recap. Also I'm livetweeting again tonight on my Twitter @dachelle if you want to watch with me! Let's get #OswaldCobblepotAppreciationSociety trending

I definitely think this episode was a step up from weather-balloon-murders. But so far I've spent most of the show waiting for the writers to let Barbara be more interesting. Her big-hair-short-skirt brooding up in her clock tower is getting old. I was kind of hoping for something more when she came out (in a way) to Jim but even that was kind of anti-climactic. I guess it is Jim's story, not hers. And it was nice that he wasn't bothered by her dating history and ask her stupid, invasive questions ("You used to be gay?" "You dated girls?!?! The horror!"). I'm not sure what I wanted. I find her to be one of the top three most interesting characters on the show and they are giving her nothing to work with.
Speaking of interesting characters, this new lounge-singer girl Liza(?) is not one of them. I care much more about Fish making two girls fight for a job than I do the girl who didn't seem to care but won anyway.

I think maybe she forgot where the door was until Oswald knocked on it, and then she was like, oh yeah, I have a door, I can leave this place! I agree, I'm glad that Jim didn't make the fact that her past relationship was with a woman the problem. Hopefully now that she's separated from Jim for a bit she can develop a storyline of her own.

So what did we all think of "Viper"? I thought it was a pretty good ep - I liked Nygma a lot more this week since he wasn't having to spout horrible riddles, and I'm interested in what's going on in the Waynes' company. Of course, Oswald is still stealing the show for me.
Also, if you missed it on the website, Morena Baccarin's been cast as a recurring character in the show, which is something I'm very much looking forward to.

I very much enjoy the show. The production/set value is tremendous. This feels like I've always imagined Gotham to be. I think it is cast very intelligently, and, in a pleasant surprise, Jada Pinkett Smith has been amazing in this role.
But the real story that hooks me is Penguin's rise in the mobs. This arc, even though it exists on the fringe of these freak-of-the-week, is clearly the slow-burner to main thrust of the series.
There are a few concerns though. Dialogue sometimes feels forced and stilted, especially in the pilot (There will be light, Bruce! There will be light!). Fish's girl-weapon is utterly forgettable. Barbara Keene is handled more as a plot device (particularly the last episode where she became the damsel in distress). Jim does fine, I suppose. I have no strong emotions in regard to his character or performance. It's fine.
Utilizing Bruce seems to be something they can't help, but I feel his appearance should be sparse and only every other episode or three.
Don't mind the Easter Eggs, except where the change/reveal makes absolutely no sense with absolutely no payoff (Ivy Peppers? What?).
In short, a little on the nose with things, but I am really liking it.

I finally caught up with the show. I really enjoyed the last two episodes, it has Ben McKenzie doing what he does best, beating up people.

Anyone else think the Penguin is actually the Joker??? Can I say that I hope not? I get that Robin Lord Taylor is brilliant and a delight and a gift to us all and therefore people may want him to be secretly playing the Joker because the Joker is such an iconic character in the Batman mythos, but I like him as the Penguin. I love that his portrayal is taking a villain many have seen as second-tier and elevating him. I also think it doesn't really make sense for Oswald to become the Joker because the Joker is a loose cannon. He's about chaos. The pleasure of watching Oswald in the first season of Gotham has been to see how he works within the existing power structure, playing those with power against each other in order to effect his own rise. Oswald doesn't want to watch the world burn, he wants to rule it. I think it would require a huge precipitating event and complete change in personality to make him into the Joker.

RLT should not be the joker. He's great as the penguin, let him be the penguin. Joker should absolutely NOT be in the show at all. Joker should appear at the same time as bats. They go toegther.

Reasons to NOT watch the show: "Cat" and "Fish".
Reasons to WATCH the show: Penguin and Alfred.
Everything else just gets lost in the middle.

Anyone watch the series return episode on Monday, 1/5? I thought the glimpses of the Arkham Asylum brought even more texture to this incarnation of the Gotham universe. Some of the characters can be admittedly annoying, but I still contend that the show is building into something unique. Really like the character development for Penguin and Gordon, and hope the second half of season 1 can continue to build traction with the audience.

The one thing the show continues to do wrong is they seem to want introduce a different Batman character in almost every episode. For instance the scarecrow was introduced in this weeks episode. I have a feeling the Joker will be introduced before the season ends. Whether we like it or not. It feels like the creators think fans are completely brain dead and we are going to jump up and down every time a character we know is introduced. Look I love geeking out as much as the next person but they really need to calm down. They have over 20 episodes a season. They can afford to space the character introductions into the later seasons. That's not too much to ask.

its the arrow formula, have nothing happen each episode with a lot of namedropping/cameos and a cliffhanger so people will watch the next episode.

I'm still a couple episodes behind. I really dig this show and hope it gets better. I have heard complaints that having Selina and Bruce know each other messes up the history, but I actually think it strengthens what we know. Batman always falls for her tricks and feminine wile because he never completely got over his boyhood crush on her. It works well. I also love e grumpy Alfred.
