We’ve made it to the second episode of The Missfits and this show is dedicated to creator Warren Ellis and his works. The second half of our show is spent talking about some of his works such as Transmetropolitan, Freak Angels, Nextwave, Iron Man: Extremis, Planetary, Gravel, Red and more. If there’s something that we should’ve read or anything else you want to add on about Warren Ellis, make sure you join us in the forums on our personal board. Before we get to the topic though, we discuss some big news that happened, like Eric Stephenson’s big Direct Market speech at ComicPROS, Paul Levitz becoming a part of BOOM Studios and of course, Warren Ellis’ new book at Image. We also sound off on a few things that we’ve each been enjoying since the last show and those things are: Hannibal, Freak Angels, Phantom Thief Jeanne, K, Arrow, Guacamelee and BattleBlock Theater. Just in case you’re wondering what madness is playing during our little mini-break in between segments, it’s the secret level music from BattleBlock Theatre. Just so you know what you’re getting yourself into if you decide to play the game. Please make sure you’re subscribing to our new feeds as we’re not just a part of the Talking Comics feed and iTunes subscription anymore. Your support means a lot to us and we can’t wait to see all of you wonderful people on our subscribers feed. I've not read any Warren Ellis before, but on the back of the podcast I've bought the Planetary hardback. Sounds right up my street. Definitely going to check out Transmetropolitan as well. Currently on the episodes to money spent ratio, your podcast has been the most costly to me, lol. Keep up the good work!

Excellent episode! The conversation flowed really well. I mostly listened while driving my daughter around doing errands (I usually don't care about profanity too much, but I appreciate that this episode was relatively light on profanity).
And I'm excited that Comixology now has most of the collected editions for Planetary and Transmetropolitan. Got some fun reading to do!

Another good episode, didn't expect a new one so soon. I thought the conversation was already a bit better than in the previous episode, need to check out some of the Warren Ellis books cause i'm not really familiar with his work. The first thing i'll check out from him is his new Moon Knight book that comes out this week i think.

Great show, ladies!
I honestly didn't realise how much Warren Ellis stuff I've actually read without realising. I certainly intend to check out more of his stuff.
Pretty excited about the next episode, I'm a BIG Studio Ghibli fan.
Keep up the good work and Steph, keep on singing dat scat!

I was over the moon w/ Fell. After the 9th issue, I was like where the hell did he go w/ Fell. Sigh no more at all. Thanks for Brubaker & Phillips for filling that huge void w/ Fatale & Criminal over at Image. Planetary was SUPERRRRRR lateass late it is not even funny that I never finished Transmet & moved on to Scalped instead. Black Summer is a guilty pleasure w/ art to back it up. Putting it politely, his record is mixed w/ me. If he starts something; I get hooked on it either Warren drops it or takes too long for me to give a damn when he actually does. All it did is make me value other creators at Image & elsewhere more. As for the second episode as a whole, just the zippty doo Billy Cosby-ish interlude between news & the Ellis discussion annoyed me to no end. Otherwise a great discussion ladies. I'm very proud of each of you.

Excellent subjectmatter! Nextwave is one of my alltime favorite comics and Freakangels is one of the best webcomics out there. Going to listen to the podcast on my drive back from work. Can't wait!

Another excellent show. I haven't read everything you guys have, but I'll have to check it out. Also a huge recommendation for battleblock theater too! I will stick up for The Authority and recommend it whole heartedly to anyone that enjoys team/superhero books.

Very good show. I'm a huge fan of Transmetropolitan but haven't really checked out any other Warren Ellis original content. I think I'll take a look at planetary pretty soon thanks to you gals. Also, I have picked up nextwave but it's been lingering on the shelves, maybe I'll get into that as well sooner than later!

I read the first issue of Planetary a while back as a free download on Comixology and I loved it. Going to get the omnibus when instocktrades.com gets it back in stock (oh the irony)

This episode was definitely in my wheelhouse. As for Ellis material I would also recommend Planetary. Most of his stuff has a strong beginning but has a tendency to peter out. But this had a very satisfying beginning, middle and end. I think around issue twelve a continuing storyline begins. To address the long delays in the book Ellis cites health issues, a crashed hard drive and his waiting on Cassidy to finish his other commitments.
The Gravel series that was recommended actually started as a limited series called Strange Kiss, followed by I believe Stranger Kisses, Strange Killings (this being a series of minis), then the Gravel series. But I think the latter were plotted by Ellis and writer artist Mike Wolfer mainly finished the stories.
For the life of me can't remember who said that they couldn't get into the Authority, but I'd suggest reading his Stormwatch run before this. These stories planted the seeds for what would eventually become the Authority. As a caution I'd suggest the trades due to the fact the newly released hardcovers omit an important storyline by Ellis.
Hope this helps and I'm not rambling like a loon.

I'm interested in reading some Gravel too, but even the TPB are pretty pricey, we're talking $65 for 3 volumes.
