Winners are here: www.imdb.com/oscars/nominations/index?ref_=hm_ad_t5Personally i thought 12 years a slave was a great film but not great enough to win. Gravity deserves best visual effects and everything else it won. (so glad visual effects didn't go to The Lone Ranger) Cate Blanchett won best actress (As i am Australian, this makes me happy) I am disappointed that Fassbender didn't win best supporting actor in 12 years a slave as i thought he was the highlight of that film. And because Matthew McConaughey won best actor i now can't wait for interstellar as it is only a matter of time until Nolan makes a best picture

From a numbers stand-point this was the best I've ever done at the Oscars. I went 22/24 with my only misses being Best Live Action Short (I guessed on that one) and Best Documentary (I really thought The Act of Killing had it in the bag given it won nearly every other major award).
In terms of what I thought? I was happy with what won but most of the show was fairly predictable. There didn't seem like a universe that existed where Cate, Matthew or Jared DIDN'T win their respective awards and Gravity DIDN'T take all the technical awards so I ended up skimming a lot during the middle portion of the program.
Though expected, I WAS happy to see Frozen take home both of its awards, especially considering its the first time Disney Animation has ever won an Academy Award for that category and Let It Go was my favorite song of the three. I was also happy that Spike Jonze won because now him and his ex-wife (Sofia Coppola) are tied Oscar-wise.
As for 12 Years, I expected it to win the three awards it did. Like I said in my second paragraph, I didn't really see a reality in which it didn't win at least 3 awards, especially the ones it did, so whether or not I thought another film/actor/actress/screenplay was better, it was pretty much moot.
Overall it was a good show, I can't complain.

I dont understand how the voting works exactly. So Gravity won for best director, meaning he directed the best film of the year, but it doesn't win best picture? I don't get it. This is the first year I watched the entire thing and I found it to be so long! They need to somehow figure out how to fit it in 2 hours or something. It was longer than The wolf on wall street

If you are a director you vote in Best Director/Best Film, if you are a Producer you vote for Best Film. Writers vote for Best Original Screenplay, etc. There is some overlap but generally there are not an even number of votes for each category which would explain why seemingly hand-in-hand awards go different ways.

I didn't watch everything this year but saw 12 Years A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, and Wolf Of Wall Street.
12 Years A Slave totally deserved everything it got this year, and was definitely the tighter narrative of the 3. DBC lost it's focus for me in the last 20 minutes but Leto was totally deserving of that award. Can't say I was disappointed with any of those winners.
I really need to see Her and Blue Jasmine now.
