Is Spawn worth reading (from the start). I know it was a hit back then and i know Greg Capullo ends up drawing it and i like his work on Batman.

Spawn's always been one of those "Looks cool and right up my alley" but I've never been sure to just jump on randomly or start at #1.

I've never dared to read more than 2 issues, the book just oozes everything 90's when it comes to comics and I really can't stand most comics from that decade.

I got nostalgic and tried to read the first few issues of spawn with the ambitions of binge reading everything they've put out to this date, to be honest I put it down pretty quick. I guess all of my memories were from the toys and the stuff I made up based on the comics that were packaged with the toys.

It was mentioned on the show that Brian Wood was doing Spawn Resurrection #1 with Jonboy...perhaps, but Paul Jenkins is doing the ongoing. Wood and MacFarlane had differences on what Wood wanted to do, I guess.

I used to have the first half dozen issues from back in what, 92? 93?, and I must have read them a hundred times each, the art was so cool. I must have read the one with the ice cream guy a jillion times by itself (not sure why that one appealed to me so much). The movie kind of killed it for me, and it just hasn't appealed to me in my old age

It seems kinda weird but I bought that giant sized issue 250 because I loved the McFarlane cover. I tried so hard to read it, I promise you I did, but I couldn't get more than 5 pages in. I kept thinking about cheeseburgers and anything else other than the book. I'm one of those people who can randomly pick up a book in the middle of an arc, and still like it. But it didn't happen for me here.
The covers fantastic though and I'm going to end up framing it and hanging it up somewhere. But it's the first and last spawn book I'll ever buy. Seems a bit unfair but he just doesn't do it for me. Spawn always seemed like a dark mashup of stuff bunch of other characters I love.

spawn was always the coolest looking superhero for me as a kid and that old movie blew my mind at the time.
but yeah i tried jumping on in the 230's or so and it really wasnt working, McFarlane says that resurrection #1 is a good jumping on point because of the original spawn coming back but i didnt pick it up because i started reading from the beginning and will continue to do so.
i really like the basic story of spawn and the Capullo/MacFarlane art is just great definitely worth checking out imo.

If it was me, I'd just watch the HBO show and be satisfied with that
