Being taken over by David Finch apparently. Have to say I'm a little bit gutted. I've loved Azzarello's run, and the universe he's created. There take on Wonder Woman was a big reason into me picking up comics. Got a feeling DC are going to take the character more in the Justice League Wonder Woman direction. I suppose all good things must come to an end. Really hope Azzarello and Chang do a New Gods book.

Taken over by Finch?!?!? NOOOOOOO!!!! I hadn't heard that. And, with that, I'll probably drop it from my pull list. Any word on the new writer?
I am definitely sorry to see Azzarello & Chiang (et als)run come to an end. However, they have been telling one, in depth, story so if it comes naturally to a conclusion then that is fine.
Even if it seemed like WW sometimes served as a secondary character in her own title and I had some major issues with their treatment of the Amazons (there are several pages from issue 7 that I basically have to pretend like they were never created...and then there is the whole "turn the entire island population into snakes' thing) I otherwise enjoyed their deeply mythological story.

With this news I doubt I'll keep up with Wonder Woman for much longer, but I'll give Finch atleast a few issues.

For me this is a "good news, bad news" kind of thing; I couldn't get behind the story Brian Azzarello was telling (Diana's the Goddess of War; her poignant classic origin a thing to ridicule?), and that #7 issue is one of the low points in Wonder Woman's 72-year history, but at least the Cliff Chiang art was respectful. Based on the promo image from the article, that has gone the way of all flesh...literally in this arch-back pose:

I know from the images I've seen Chiangs art is very nice.

I know they were wrapping up this year, but do not want Finch on it, in all honesty. I don't like the pinup style for her.

Wonder Woman is one of my favourite characters, so I'm more than willing to give Finch a chance, and I'm excited for Grant Morrisons graphic novel. I've not got the baggage of Wonder Womans history, so have found the new 52 run excellent, and something I've looked forward to every month. I love the whole Greek mythology aspect. So as someone who is pretty new to comics and has loved Azzarello and Changs run, I'd love to delve more into her history, can anyone recommend any good runs I should check out?

Morrison with art by Yanick Paquette! Gonna be amazing. The 80s Perez run is great and I'd say Greg Rucka's Hiketeia (did I spell that right?) sounds up your alley. Also Marston's original run (collected as WW Chronicles & WW Archive Edition - check your local library - and they are avail digitally) is well worth reading.

Phantom, Without question, George Perez's post-Crisis Wonder Woman is the modern gold standard, and among the newer runs, both Gail Simone's and Greg Rucka's are stellar, and going back a bit, Phil Jimenez's run is also excellent, and they will all give you the mythological "fix" you're talking about, not to mention (though more importantly!)staying more true to the character as created by Dr. Marston back in 1941!

Much obliged good sir! I shall be seeking these out. My pleasure as always to chat about the Amazon Princess! (Did you ever check out our "Wonder Woman Round-table" episode? We had Mara Wood, Professor Carolyn Cocca, comics creator & "her-storian" Trina Robbins, and Greg Rucka discussing all things Wonder Woman ! If you listen be kind, I was very nervous in such esteemed company!) talkingcomicbooks.com/2013/08/29/women-comics-podcast-wonder-woman-panel/

I'm still waiting to hear confirmation from DC (since right now Bleeding Cool is the only one with the story and I trust them about as far as I can throw them) but I don't mind Finch taking over on art duties. I'm more interested in seeing who will be writing it and what Brian will be doing now that his run on Wonder Woman is over.
