So I've been thinking about subscribing to Marvel Unlimited and was wondering if it's worth it?
How does the app compare to the Comixology one for a reading experience?
I understand availability of newer issues is at least 6 months behind, but the new Marvels don't get reduced in price digitally until around then also, so I don't keep up with them anyway. I don't buy at full price.
What has me contemplating using this service is things like the 99 cent Uncanny X-Force sale on Comixology right now. I could pay $37 and have them all in my "permanent" library, but that's like half the cost of an annual MU subscription. And they would still be available to read any time (assuming MU has them all).
Of course, if I did go with MU, then I'd be kicking myself about all the money I've already spent on Marvel digital books that are available on MU...
Thanks!

I've had the Unlimited subscription for 2 years and it has saved me $100's of dollars and allowed me to read a lot fo series I never would've got the chance too. It is one of the wiser decisions you can make if your comic hobby career lol.

Ok, you talked to me into it. The reading experience is not as good as Comixology (or the Marvel-branded Comixology app), but it works. It appears to not be HD like Comixology - the text gets a bit blurry when zoomed etc. And the "Smart Panel" doesn't work quite as good as Guided View. But I think it will be worth the money to be able to read the stuff that I don't have to actually "own".
I just noticed there's a thread on this in the Marvel forum - guess I should've checked there first!

I personally don't have any problem with reading Unlimited on my IPad, but i would also agree that the Comixology app is the best way to read digital(Dark Horse app is pretty good too i think) But all those little issues and bugs don't bother me one bit, the fact that i can read almost everything from Marvel that i want for a small price is good enough for me. And i also think that most of those problems are eventually going to be fixed with a couple of updates or something.

Unlimited has many many flaws. Missing books, blurry pages, not to mention it sometimes cancels my subscription without notice or reason. But even taking that into account it is still very much worth the money. I think a subscription service for your entire catologue is a briljant idea and when they get the kinks out it will only get better and better.

I saw they had an update to the app today or yesterday maybe? anyone use the updated app?
New update: Smart Panel experience to enhance your comic on mobile devices
anyone use this? one of my biggest gripes about the old app was the smart panel. it was so bad, cut of dialog, etc. just didn't work well. Main reason I did not renew my subscription. Curious if its any better. might re-join.

The new updates to Marvel Ulimited are pretty amazing. -Smart Panel experience has been greatly improved - They are adding the AR videos to be playable within the comic - Also they are testing out audio tracks being added to comics. I actually just tried out the Captain America comic they have out as a preview and I have to say it really enhances the reading experience. Your not required to play the track, but it is a great option.

Haven't tried the enhanced audio or video yet, but the app in general is better looking and a lot smoother. Good job, Marvel.
Now I'm kind of sorry I spent so much at Comixology/Marvel actually buying issues. And I bet DC (and Image someday?) will come out with something similar and I'll be doubly sorry, since I've spent even more on DC issues.

If your buying current issues for series your not wasting money, because your helping to keep the series going. Buying back issues on the other hand for a series that has already ended could maybe fall in line with that thought.

Just so everyone knows its the last day to try it out for a month at only 99 cents. Had to pick it up and at least give it a shot! Also can someone that already has it point me to the comics incorporating the new sound effects they just rolled out? Thanks!

There should be a link in the feature section, but at the moment it's only on the Captain America Winter Soldier stuff, which is about 6 comics. They are just trial testing it right now.

Don't really care about the audio additions, but its great for people that like those sort of sound effects while reading. I do like the new AR feature though, always wanted to watch those things whenever i saw them but couldn't. The new smart panel works good i think, but i don't really use it that much.

Any idea if the digital comics discount apply to the comic you can read in the comixology app?
Also can a comic go lower that 99 cents applying this discount to a comic on sale

Also can a comic go lower that 99 cents applying this discount to a comic on sale To use the 15% discount you have to go directly to Marvel's Digital Comic Shop through a browser. The discount won't apply through Comixology or the Marvel App, but when you buy the comic from the Digital Shop it will show up in those apps like normal.

Being able to immediately jump to the next issue is a major improvement that makes the reading proces much more user-friendly. But I find that you have to be very carefull with it because oftentimes it will skip an issue.
