I finally got around to reading Death Of The Family, although only the actual Batman issues (13-17) so far. I have not read any of the tie-ins. Really good stuff. I especially love Capullo's art, he just keeps getting better and better. Such a huge progression since the Spawn days (which was still very good for its time).
Anyway, I have a couple of questions about the end of the story (Batman 17), so warning spoilers ahead. Not sure if these are answered by the tie-ins or later issues, or if I'm just not a very attentive reader and need to re-read it from the beginning. I'm sure I could probably look up Internet discussions on this, but I thought it would be fun to get the TCF view on things.
This isn't really a question, but more of an observation. I knew that Damian was going to die, and I assumed it happened in this storyline. So I was surprised when it didn't and he was alive at the end. I'm guessing that happens in Batman, Incorporated, which I'm also reading. Almost up to that issue. So I guess "Death of the Family" means the death of the Batman Family and of the relationships Bruce had with his allies, which was what The Joker's plan actually was.
What was the significance of the little notebook with the blank pages that Batman found after his final clash with Joker?
What did Batman mean when he asked Dick about what Joker had said to him in the dark? I don't remember Joker saying anything to Dick. Maybe in the Nightwing tie-in issues?
Are we supposed to know/figure out the Joker's true (original) identity from this? Did Batman really know? And why did the Joker have his face removed - what was his motive other than the usual non-motive? (I did read those early Detective issues with the Dollmaker.)
I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember right now...
Any answers/opinions appreciated... thanks!
