I'd say Now You See Me is my film of 2013, mainly because I went in with such low expectations, but even though I could see the twist coming a mile away I still really enjoyed it and could happily watch it again.
The Desolation of Smaug was good, and it definitely had parts in that made me go squee, but I'd genuinely put Man of Steel as my 2nd favourite of the year, I know its not a popular opinion but it was exactly the film I hoped it would be, the only flaw was that Amy Adams was in it, and this is not a slight on her abilities, but Mrs.Monkey is kinda obsessed with the Muppets Movies in particular the newest one, so whenever I see her on screen I can't help but imagine her singing about her 'Me Party'.
My biggest disappointment? The Worlds End - I loved Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, but I just groaned all the way through it, the ending just didn't seem in sync with the rest of the film, and I didn't find myself laughing as much as I did at the other 2 Cornetto Trilogy flicks, honourable mention goes to Runner Runner - Biggest waste of 2 hours of my life in 2013

With my son being in the first year of his life, seeing movies proved to be quite difficult. If i had to pick one of the ones i actually got to see, ill say Thor. I wasnt such a fan of the first one and i went into the movie expecting more of the same and i came out pleasantly surprised how much i enjoyed it
Favorite movie of all time is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

There are still a bunch of movies I have yet to see catch up with from 2013 that I'm sure would otherwise make my top ten, that being said they are as follows: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Thor: The Dark World Man Of Steel Pacific Rim Olympus Has Fallen The Wolverine This Is The End World War Z The Lone Ranger Elysium I'm actually happy to see The Lone Ranger on that list. Yeah it was big, dumb and loud but I couldn't really bring myself to hate it. I was having too much fun

Hm, no mention of Desolation of Smaug? C'mon, nerds! Pacific Rim was tons of fun, although it took some loosening of my expectations from Del Toro to allow myself to enjoy it. I really liked Mama. Monster University, I enjoyed Man of Steel more than I expected to. (I know, probably not a popular choice here, but I'm not really a Superman fan, so I had no issues with the story) The Conjuring creeped the hell out. On another note, biggest movie disappoint this year was Kick-Ass 2. Ugh. I did love Desolation of Smaug (anything with Benedict in it can't be bad) but I think I'll enjoy the cohesive whole of The Hobbit once everything is all said and done. Mama and The Conjuring were both really great films that I enjoyed and if it means anything, I proudly have both of them in my collection. If I did a top 20, both films would be in there. And yeah...the less said about Kick Ass 2, the better.

Gotta respect a guy who loves ESotSM. I DID enjoy Thor, but it seemed like there was something missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Still, I always enjoy seeing more of that world and it was definitely an exciting film if nothing else.

Another nod for Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, fantastic story, high on my list for sure! We should do a thread on our most anticipated movies of 2014, then we can compare the reality vs our expectation come New Years 2014/15

I'm in the same boat. Went from watching multiple movies a night to one or two a month. The problem is always, do we try to watch a great movie, on low volume, after he goes to bed or do we risk watching it while he's awake and miss half of the dialogue? Or, we give up and watch Sesame Street... again.

I used to be a movie nut, I'd be there for every opening of all the big movies and I got to actually go out to see a film like 3 times all year. At home it's impossible! It doesn't help that my son is allergic to naps or sleep in general but yeah... I feel your pain! He's cute so it's worth it though.

My husband does video editing as a career, so to say he's a home theater nut is a huge understatement. The big sacrifice for his new daddy status this year was packing up half of the surround system and putting the blu ray collection in storage. This Christmas, he licked his wounds by secretly ordering a new 70 in tv. Every new house we move in to has to pass his living room requirements, which include fitting the tv, stupidly gigantic sectional and speakers in an "ideal viewing and listening" set up. *sigh*
Yeah, I'd say our movie time has changed. Although, seeing Desolation of Smaug was the most wonderful, quiet 3 hours of sitting I've done in the past year.

If you had to deal with my TV setup I think you'd be grateful. I have a tiny 20-something inch that's EDTV (Enhanced Definition.... like fake HD) Oh the college life.

Loved thor and the Hobbit. My favourite has to be Pacific Rim though as that was just pure joyous brainless summer fun. Great effects and a simple story that made my eyes and ears bleed. What more could I ask for?

I loved Pacific Rim, just a great watch, visually stunning. Either White House Down or Olympus has Fallen was great, whichever one was the funny one. The other was OK too.

We're the Millers was actually hilarious. Was Saving Mr. Banks the movie about something to do with the Mary Poppins movie? Me and my girl were gonna go see that but decided not to last second. Was it any good?
