Even though I'm out there constantly kvetching about things that aren't yet as good as they should be, I'm very upbeat about all the positive steps that have been taken over the last months in terms of greater representation of women in the comics field. whether as characters, creators, or fans, and what seems the start of some similar progress regarding PoC and the LGBT community. I applaud Image Comics and their efforts to give creators a better deal, as well as their broad range of genres that help open (or re-open) avenues to prospective new readers, whilst also celebrating the work that publishers such as IDW, Dark Horse, Archie and Dynamite do with their "all-ages", licensed titles, and reprints that keep many classic properties in the public consciousness, just waiting to be re-discovered by fresh eyes.
I'm especially grateful to all of you fine folks in our Talking Comics community who have made this enterprise, and particularly these Forums, such a bastion of civil discourse and camaraderie; it warms the heart of your Obedient Servant (and Resident Curmudgeon!) to see that there is a corner of the internet where good fellowship is paramount!

If there were awards for most civil online forum, this one would win. Very rare. I feel like you could post a video of a rainbow over a field of flowers with a unicorn playing the ukulele on youtube and someone would threaten you and call you names.

Benjamin, In my mind's eye, I was conjuring up the lovely images from your proposed You Tube video...BUT HOW DARE YOU MENTION UKULELES! MY UNCLE WAS KILLED BY A UKULELE WHEN HE WAS WALKING ON BAGEL STREET..AND WHILE WEARING A SUSQUEHANNA HAT!!! (Watch the video, and you'll see that Bud Abbott & Lou Costello seem to have been many decades ahead of the curve in describing the sort of "outrage" that is so prevalent across the internet!)

I am grateful for many things, but today I'm going to say: Comixology. The ability to get a huge amount of comics cheaply and easily -- spanning time and geography -- they have improved my quality of life.

I thank comics for Jeff Lemire, Noah van Sciver, Brian Michael Bendis, and so many more. Thank you for bringing all this good reading to me.

I grew up on those guys, I'm pretty sure I've seen all their movies (including the one lou did at the end by himself which was not great). Everytime I see one of the old routines I feel like I'm 10 years old all over again, great stuff.

I do find myself getting caught up in all the negativity and criticism so I really appreciate this thread. Sure it's important to be aware of the imbalance in representation but sometimes I guess I risk forgetting that there is a reason I enjoy this community. I'm grateful for The Runaways for being the first full-series to capture my attention. Also for conventions, as they can serve as a physical manifestation of the passionate and talented portion of the community.

Too often, they are thought about as knock-about burlesque comedians, but their word-play was very clever, and the interplay between them was magical!
