Ok so I'm primarily a Marvel reader with a sprinkling of DC in there. But I'm having a tough time making connections with DC's characters. There are a few that I really enjoy such as Green Lantern, Batman and Harley Quinn but outside of that I don't have anything. Am I just missing something or does DC lack in this subject. Any help or tips or anything like that would help.

I tried as well about a year ago to get into the New 52 and I've only been able to stick with Batman and Wonder Woman, I was personally unable to have any connection with the other characters. Superman is such a boring character, but I would be very interested in a Louis Lane ongoing or a solo series for The Question.

If you haven't tried it yet, I'd suggest the Flash might be a good character to dip your toes into DC with, especially if you mostly read Marvel. The Flash is more colourful and fun than most DC books and the Rogues would fit in pretty well amongst Marvel villains.
Try the first New 52 trade (or borrow it if you can) and see what you think.

Try looking at some more obscure titles or characters. Check out either 52 or Brightest Day for a big variety of characters and see if there's anyone you like in there. Blackest Night has some good Flash and Green Lantern stuff in there. Check out some of the New 52 dark titles. Andrew Bennett in I,Vampire and Buddy Baker in Lemire's Animal Man are both pretty likeable characters.

If you want to connect with a character but still have some team aspects I would suggest Justice League of America (2006) #1-7. It's an arc about the forming of the Justice League but has a very strong story about Red Tornado, whom I really didn't know much about before reading this. The first issue is especially neat as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman sit around and basically debate about who they want on the Justice League team, and why. Plus it has my personal all time favorite colorist, a position I really didn't even bother to look at the name until I saw his work - Alex Sinclair. His colors just seemed to pop off the page in a way I'd never noticed before. - Beau

My favorite is Daredevil and I love the not having fear or the ability to overcome it I think this is also why I like Green lantern. I like Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) because she is a strong personality and she's a hero, not a woman hero, just a hero I find it refreshing that she's not about well I can do anything a man can do but in a skimmpier outfit! Which I still see a lot of from both of the big 2. Thor because of the adventures and the drinking lol. And lastly cyclops and all of the original x-men because of the being the outcast but continually working for the good of all. If that helps.

1 - I would go with Aquaman... great book and really going somewhere with it. 2 - the movement.. nice and neat story.. however the first arc is quite long. 3 - Justice League Dark - very cool, love Constantine 4 - Earth 2 - i love this one.. however my only problem is they there is only one book for and entire world... not enough pages for the amount of characters involved
hope this helps! Jay

I would recommend checking out Animal Man. He's a very human character with a wife and family, whom which play a very integral role in all of his series. I love DC characters but I can see how people are drawn to Marvel because many of their main characters have a more relatable element to them. That's why is suggest Animal Man. He's like a marvel character stuck in a Vertigo world - his series tend to be on the far out and/or dark side of the spectrum. Jeff Lemire's New 52 reboot has been great... And the Morrison run is the dopest of the dope

I'm in the same boat, the only DC titles I currently read are Batman and Green Lantern. DC has just never grabbed me the way Marvel has. I do have a hefty amount of back issues of Animal Man and Swamp Thing I picked up on sale that I'll get to eventually.

Jay Where do you think is a good place to jump onto Aquaman? I was thinking about checking it out but I don't know ANYTHING about it (much like most DC heroes) And when is the first issue of The Flash coming out with the creative team switch? I was thinking about jumping on then. It just seems so difficult to get into DC books because they don't explain whats going on in the beginning of the books (like Marvel does) so if you try to jump on in the middle of an arc it's next to impossible.

Flash #26 is self-contained and a pretty good jumping on point if you feel like giving it a try.
