Oh good lord, I just read the newest incarnation of the Doom Patrol and loved it endlessly. Way really has a voice of its own and the Doom Patrol feel so new and weird and classic at the same time.
when i first heard of DC Young Animal I had my rerservations but since i read the book i am so faithful this will be a stellar time for weird comicbooks! I really hope it gets traction and many people try it out !
I read Matthew of TC liked it quit, but it also should be right up Steves alley.
What did you think if this books and what are your feelings towards the other titles of the Young Animal imprint?
Cheers from Germany and as always, sorry for the bad english!

I think it was a fun first issue, I wouldn't say it blew me away or left me gasping for the next issue but solid stuff.
I'm already thinking it is looking like a trade buy rather than a monthly book for me, if Issue 2 leaves me with the same feeling then I will trade wait. most interesting thing for me is who will end up on the team & where they are currently.

I guess I totally understand what you mean. The book carries a legacy and its hard for the book itself to not feel artsy or prentencious? Just because of the Morrison legacy. But I think the whole weird stuff ist really naturally and alle the pages seem to hint to stuff and will pay off in the end. BUT its not that the book feels like some glued together pages with no connection, there is just enough narration for me, that it works perfectly. It feels big, misterious and important. Like Waid wrote on the last page, the book also feels dangerous. Like anything can happen, AND for a reason. I dont know if I can describe it the right way, but I am so so much in love with the book and the idea behind the whole imprint. In the beginning everything sounded gimmicky, but if all the other books breath the same air, I have absolutely no fear, this whole thing will becoming something very special. For me, I am rereading Doom Patrol right now, to get all the bits that are hinted Cheers folks, and sorry for the grammar

I reread Morrison's Doom Patrol late last year and really enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this too & it is true that in these type of titles you can be less constrained, avoid all the events and tell some more brain twisting tales.
It was always going to be difficult for the book to live up to the hype because the whole Young Animal line came out of the blue & is hopefully more evidence that DC is not just listening but also identifying what perhaps the less vocal non-internet readership is looking for.
Just having a Doom Patrol book is great news!

Simon... Herman,
You'll hear an involved discussion about the new Doom Patrol on this week's show, as we each took at read of the that crazy first issue!
I'm a big fan of the original Arnold Drake/Bruno Premiani series from the old days, and I thought Gerard Way showed a nice (though quirky!) appreciation for what came before as he crafted his own weird world around the old theme. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how-or-if he brings in other elements from that first series or Grant Morrison's, or if the bizarre nature of this new book is something that is self-sustaining, not to mention whether it's tenable as a monthly book.
I'm still not exactly sure at all levels what I read, but I had a great time doing it!

Wasn't planning on buying this but since Comixology has a awesome Vertigo sale going on right now i thought why not.Too bad i didn't know what the hell was going on though, maybe that's because i haven't read any of the old Doom Patrol or maybe i need to read it some more times to better understand it.Liked the art a lot though!
