Now we all know why Comics are good foR us. They promote reading, imagination and are just a lot of fun. But why are Comics good for you specifically? For me, My whole life I seem keeping busy With Work with social life with extra curricular activities, home duties, errands. I seem to just have to be going 24 7.
it's gotten to the point where I have trouble sitting down to watch a movie that I want to see forever.
Comic books for me provide that little 20 minutes half an hour break and actually allow me to relax. That to me means so much more to me then a great story.
It sounds silly but ld like to thank the comic industry for this. And I'd Like to thank the talking Comics crew for all they do to promote this medium.
Love Luck and Lilly pops

Carol, I whole-heartedly agree with your thoughts about that lovely break; a time in the day where you can let your imagination take free rein, and through the words and pictures in a great comic book, you can be transported to another world, or be the heroine or hero that you are in your heart. ps) Thanks for the kind words; they truly mean a lot! rrr

I'm a little Dyslexic but love story's. I play video games, watch movies and TV series for this reason and love audio books. But with all this my reading and writing is just getting worse. Comics give me the chance to read actual words and it does help with my spelling and the way I write in things like in these forum posts. Autocorrect is handy be we all know what happens with that sometimes. The limited amount of words per page and the art really keeps me reading. I'm a real superhero nut and love the shows but when ever I get a good book I enjoy it alot more.

I use to read all my new releases the day l got them. Now I space them out to read at least one a day but no more then 3. I don't have the biggest pull list so it's not a daunting must read list. It never seems like work. And as l said l appreciate the little break. It's therapy for Mr as much as it is fun.

It never seems like work. And as l said l appreciate the little break. Nowadays I tend to read one here and one there over the course of the week when I get a few minutes and feel like reading one. My pull is relatively small as well (only about 10-11 books per month) so some weeks I have 3-4 to read, other weeks I have 0-2... Makes for nice little breaks from kids and work. as for why hey are good for me, I have been reading a lot of sci-fi books recently and I am finding that sci-fi comics are giving me the stories and characters i want to read about as opposed to books/TV/movies. gives me my fix while also forcing me to unplug for a bit can you imagine if we had Saga, Injection or Descender as tv shows? ye gods!

For me it was always about the escapism and the scale of comics. Growing up a late 70s / 80s kid there just wasn't as much of what I enjoyed around, superhero movies had been patchy in quality & quantity and it was almost impossible in that time to have the scale a comic could provide. Books were ok but I struggled early in life with reading, comics turned me from a struggler to a high flying gold star reader in class. I realized the artwork was only limited by the persons imagination but also sometimes [not always] the artists imagination was better than mine so it could actually improve on a novel.
I do love books, how just through words you can convey mood, character & environments but sometimes as stated above I want my serial fix, its 10 minutes which is perfect for those small moments you can grab during the daily grind. The secret for me is that once opened the art & words combine to give you the immediate hit of mood, character & environment so you are there back in the moment from the last issue for 10 more minutes of total fantasy brought to life.
I read someone once describe creating a comic book as having a choice of every actor / actress and an infinite budget only limited by the creators imagination.
Similar to others I try to spread my reading through the week, some weeks its easier than others depending on the titles released but listening to TC I have a little list of recommendations and character runs I want to give a go so I always have 'break-glass-in-case-of-emergency' books I can dive into. What I have worked hard on in the last few years is to not worry that I am missing something great & try to find a way to buy / borrow everything as it is released - if it is good it will be collected & with so much great content being produced right now it has helped me retain some semblance of sanity.

Comics are important to me for a couple of different reasons.
1. Like most that have commented here, it's my chill out time. My end of the day routine is usually is either catching up on books & checking in on or posting on this forum. I like to let my books pile up and read 3 or 4 issues at one time (And, yes I realize I can buy trades and I'm slowly changing my ways).
2. Since I restarted reading comics ~ 3 years ago, it has become a family thing. My wife and I both read some of the same Image and IDW books (October Faction, Nailbiters & Sunstone) and my son and I are both making our way through ultimate spider-man and we just started the Flash. So comics was the genesis of our now nerdy family, because now if there is a comic related movie or TV show I usually hear about it from them rather than telling them.

For me reading comics and books in general is something I do in order to help myself and relax. As others have mentioned during my reading time I am able to just forget everything that is going on with my life and just immerse myself in the story I have right in front of me.
I used to be someone who had to read all of the new releases on the day they came out so that I could go on forums straight away to discuss what had happened in each of the comics, but I am older and wiser now and I no longer feel the need to read them so quickly. I will read 1-3 comics a day now and I think slowing down reading has helped me really appreciate and enjoy the books a lot more than I would of before.
