Well, politically I agree with Coates on a great many things, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'll love his comic book work. I'm heartened that he's read back issues and appears genuinely interested in telling a good story, and more importantly that he's interested in furthering the mythos of the character. I feel the panther has been the victim tokenism a lot in the MU. It would be nice to be excited for a Black Panther comic each month. As a plus Coates isn't someone to shy away from politically charged issues and the panther is inherently a political character, whether discussing his origins as the first important black superhero, him finding his place in a less than diverse universe, or the fact that he is LITERALLY a political character in that he is the ruler of a nation. I think we live in a great time for this character to find new life, new identity, and, more pragmatically, a new fanbase. In comics, as I believe in all really good fiction, all things (art, story, etc...) must serve fully developed strong characters. I would say that I'm guardedly very optimistic.
