Who are people banking on playing Carol Danvers?
I was Team Katee Sackhoff for the longest time, then switched to Emily Blunt after realising Sackhoff is unlikely to get it - despite being perfect for the role.
I baulked at the idea of Ronda Rousey getting the role as I don't think athletes transition very well to the big screen, however I've just seen an interview with her and I'm pretty OK with Rousey in the role if she has some presence.
I think the key is the tough/tender balance, which will be hard. Sackhoff has it in spades, but I think that ship might have sailed.

my favourite would be Katheryn Winnick from Vikings, she definitely got the tough/tender balance figured out

I would love to see Charlize Theron in the role. She's an outstanding actress, has real screen presence, is tough and gentle in equal measure and would definitely be my ultimate fantasy casting for the part.

Friends,
Adding to her abilities as an actress, casting Ms. Theron as Captain Marvel would certainly bring a different sort of media attention to the project, as well as ensuring that mainstream audiences would learn about how great a character Carol Danvers is, even before heading into the theatre!

As ever Bob makes a jolly good point, the mainstream exposure that having such a big star attached would bring would really push the film, and you never know, if they can get a big star maybe they could bring the film forward instead of pushing it back (sorry Ant-Man and Wasp, you look good but I *want* my CM movie!)! That may be wishful thinking on my part but you never know...

It would be a good move from Marvel. It'll be interesting to see if they decide to put some Disney Dollar behind the casting or if they'll dip a toe in with a less A-List actor. Bob Reyer Do you have a Dream Casting for Captain Marvel? Any actor, any time?

Bob Reyer Do you have a Dream Casting for Captain Marvel? Any actor, any time? Lenny, With every era in play, that's a tough question! That said, for my mind, you have to cast for not only the look, but the right balance of tough and tender to make certain that the movie Captain Marvel is everything her comic book version is, which will require an actor of special talents. I'm sure that given time, I could come up with some equally good choices as the ones that I'm going to mention, but in any discussion such as this, I'm inclined to say Greta Garbo, seen here as Mata Hari, although her accent would be a huge issue. For my first pick, I'd go with an actress whose film work spanned comedy, drama, fantasy, and musicals all the way through to Hitchcock's "Vertigo", and that's one of my favorite actresses, the multi-talented Kim Novak: My second choice (so far, anyway!), would be a woman who appeared as the "innocent" in the science-fiction classic "Forbidden Planet", but who also had the wherewithal to play P.I. Honey West in the Sixties TV series of the same name, and that's Anne Francis: I'll probably be back later, once I've had time to ruminate!
