Hey guys, not usually a forum guy but I had a broad question and figured this podcast has a wide enough listenership worldwide who might relate to it?
I've been going to my local comic store since I started buying comics for the last 7 years or so. And I went to this shop basically as soon as they opened their doors. So I know the staff well. And over time their store became the standard for the area, other stores were close-by but didn't really have a social network or community presence, or even really have fun with their customers. Then over the past year or so they got so popular and well known they had to up their staff two-fold and also opened a new location twice the size. But here's my point: The dollar isn't doing great and so, take today for example, what US stores would charge $4.99 for a DC Annual, I now pay $9. And thats including my standing order discount which means anyone else would be paying nearly $10.
Now I totally understand from a business perspective and condition of the dollar prices have to go up. But not one of the other 3 of the 4 stores in the city have upped their prices that high, and in the span of a year haven't where my store has upped theirs twice, the others have done it once. They are all smaller, and haven't recently been on Nation-Wide TV for their popularity like mine, doubled their staff or opened a larger, more central location meaning more customers.
Now I love these guys, but they haven't so much as really made an effort to explain to us "OG" customers what the hell is going on and at the end of the day, I just want to read comics.
Wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Loyalty to my store is great and all. But if I can pay nearly half as less, I would rather do that.
Its one of those awkward situations because I love going in there to chat almost daily, but then its like "Hey guys, I still want to come here but you won't get a cent."
