I agree with it being the funniest book on shelves right now and the art is absolutely fantastic. Image is totally killing it with this, Sex Criminals, and Saga. Fuckingi be those three series so much! BUT in other news, how damn excited are we for the new show coming out?!

Sooooooooo . . :longintakeofbreath: . . what're we thinking of what was just revealed yesterday, then? Yikes. Tough spot for Kurtis Wiebe, eh? Are they going to wait and see what happens, legally, before making a decision? Is Upchurch going to take the honorable path and take himself off the book? Is this going to mean the end of the series? Will it effectively kill the TV deal? Are you going to stop buying it because of this? Am I a selfish, callous asshat for even asking these questions [rhetorical, as I already know this to be true]? For me, the art is at least 50% of the reason why I started reading this book, and I love the book so much that it's hard for me to imagine not reading it anymore. HOWEVER, not only is spousal abuse (or ex-spousal abuse, or however you want to say it) absolutely abhorrent, but, to me, a long-time and very staunch pacifist, violence is never an option in most any situation, regardless of the genders or relationship between the two subjects in question. Man on woman, woman on man, man on man, woman on woman, dating, married, divorced, related, total strangers, anything in between . . for me, unless someone has a potentially lethal weapon pointed at you or pointed at a loved one (knife, gun, crossbow, morning star, ray gun, whatever), there is simply no excuse at all for resorting to or inflicting violence upon another human being. That's just my personal philosophy, and has been for as long as I can remember. That being said, I wonder if the best course of action at this point for everyone involved is for Upchurch to come out, like, tomorrow, and say, "I did a horrible thing that I ought not have done, and I care too much about Rat Queens to tarnish it or sink it, so I'm taking myself off the book. I'm so sorry, i'm gonna go away for a while and try to become a much better human being. Please don't punish Kurtis, and Image Comics, and the rest of the lovely people who work on the book, and Hannah, and Vi, and Betty, and Dee, and Dave, and especially Gary, by abandoning this thing that we all love." Because, seriously, I don't want it to go away, and I don't want to stop reading it, and I fear that it'll never be quite the same from this point on if he's still attached to it. What're you thinking right now, fellow Rat Queens enthusiasts? edit: Tess Fowler, who's been brought on as a guest artist for #11, seems to still be hopeful and supportive of the book (ie. of Kurtis). Her hope gives me hope, though it seems like the twitter twits have been none too kind to her today :/ twitter.com/TessFowler

Well there you go, a pretty tidy resolution in a tough spot. Stephanie, as a huge fan of the book and someone who's been more than a little worried and conflicted over the last couple of days, I thank you for not only getting this up so fast, but also for adding your own two-cents in there, which I agree with wholeheartedly. nblo.gs/11xksO

This is such sad news. Not just for Rat Queens and Image, but for the people involved in the domestic situation. I truly hope Roc and his wife get the help they need and that Rat Queens can recover from this. It's one of my favorite series and it would be such a shame if this is what killed it.

Wow, this completely passed me by, just got caught up on this situation.
Such a damn shame, one of my favourite comics at the moment, and one of my favourite artists right now.Its good news that Wiebe is going to continue this book, but it sucks its not going to have Upchurch's art in it, because it really fit with the story, and it accompanied Wiebe's writing really well, in my opinion.Don't get me wrong, i understand why he will no longer be on the book, and i think its the best thing to do in such a difficult situation, but it still sucks.

Such a horrible situation, but I don't really foresee this doing much to delay Rat Queens in the future. I would imagine #9 is complete and a new artist would come on the finish out the second arc in #10. The hiatus before the next arc would give them plenty of time to get things back on track.

Yeah, I don't think it'll delay the book; Tess Fowler was already set to do the art on #11, which she's already in the middle of drawing, so I have to imagine that #9 and #10 are more or less very done at this point, and since she's doing #11, that gives Kurtis plenty of time, I would think, to find a new permanent artist (heck, maybe she'll agree to come on for more than just a one-off!). My concern more than anything is that it'll take a hit in sales from people who heard the first bit of news but maybe haven't seen the second bit, and have already made their minds up to stop buying it. Hopefully the word gets out far, wide, and fast that Upchurch is off the book, and the whole of the fanbase sticks with it and keeps supporting it.

Yeah, sad news overall....and he was such a cool guy when I met him at NYCC (but again, we are not all the same person behind door and at certain moments and hope he gets help with this). ANYWAYS...really good job on Image to take care of this situation in such a fast manner.
I also agree that the book will have some problems in sales from now on due to the fact that people (I seen this on day 1 everywhere) that already are dropping the book from their pull list, while I understand the feeling some people might have about this, it would been better for them to wait and see what Image was going to do. Anyways, I hope the book doesn't end up being cancelled because this is another great book from Image.

Nothing really to add to what has already been said, other than that I hope this book survives what is a terrible situation. It's my favorite comic running at the moment and one that I frequently recommend and give away. I would hate to see something so funny and beautiful and intelligent die.

Well, Image already made a decision about this last week and he is off the book...but the series will continue, which is great.

A while back I heard Stephanie talk about Rat Queens so I read a synopsis of it and was turned off but over the weekend I took advantage of a couple black Friday deals and read the synopsis again and for some reason now I think it sounds cool. Haven't read them yet but that's happening soon.
