I know the forums are supposed to be positive, etc. But am I alone in wishing we had an adult, American actor (who is not Toby) starting from a plot point of a mature, fully superheroed-out Spider-Man? Holland does not look to have the charisma, athleticism, or experience to fill this role. But who knows. I thought Andrew Garfield could have done a better job if written properly. Bob Reyer thoughts?

Check out Tom Holland's Instagram page. He's posted some pretty impressive videos of himself doing some acrobatics. I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll bring to the part.

Well, they're not supposed to be doing a true origin story, so I'm not sure if the actor's age matters too much. And I personally don't care where the actor was born.

There was talk on the podcast about the director of the new Spider-Man. Personally I don't think director matters that much with Marvel movies. I think the big divide in superhero movies from WB, Fox, Sony and Marvel is the way they handle it. WB and Fox I think are very writer/director focus. They want to make a good movie that is an adaptation. Marvel though seems to want to produce their product basically directing their directors to keep everything in the same tone. (This also seems to be why most of their directors speak of having bad experiences or leave on bad terms) Don't get me wrong, there are hints of the directors tones in the movies, but going into them blindly I wouldn't be able to say "Oh thats definitely a John Favreau/James Gunn/Kenneth Branagh/ film" I think the only one that is very clearly the directors film is Joss' Avengers. That movie is as clearly a Joss Whedon movie as the Dark Knight trilogy are Nolans and MoS is Snyder. And I think thats why Joss is out of the picture now because he seems very independent of all that control. It works to make a good consistant product so I have no doubt the Spider-Man movie will be good. But I don't see it being drastically different from the other movies they have put out. It's why I like the Fox Marvel movies and WB DC movies more. It's an interpretation rather than a straight up adaptation. I like to see different takes on the characters. If I want the spot on character I'll read the comics.
