So I wasn't really excited for this movie. When it was announced I was, but the trailers were unexciting and looked way too clean compared to the first 2 films. It had that CGI sheen on everything.
But I saw it last night and nearly wept from pure joy. I don't quite understand the complaints about this movie. Mainly because the complaints are not things that are there to be complained about. Specifically I'm hearing its too gory and scary for kids? Has anybody seen Jurassic Park? People getting ripped apart, bloodied limbs, eaten on toilets. It goes on and on. There was maybe 1 or 2 specifically bloody scenes in this entire movie. And more importantly its caged dinosaurs let loose on a park of non-plussed people. I think its a bit warranted.
I thought it was a lot of fun. Especially after Chris Pratt overload, Guardians making him the talking point of everybody everywhere, I was worried he'd be a bit forgettable in this but he was just really likeable, and I buy him more as an action star now than I did from GOTG.
My only complaint was I did not care about the humans that much. Pratt was fun. But so much time was spent with the kids. So much time with Vincent D'Onofrio over explaining his plan. It was like the recent Godzilla for me. I was bored with the people, the forced attempts at giving them depth. But then when the dinosaurs finally appear its just an amazingly fun ride.
A side note, what was with the weird cheating staring serial killer looks the teenager kid was giving to all the girls? Is that some creepy subplot that wasn't fully developed? Because that didn't seem to make sense or pay off at all.
And that ending. Oh man. It was like someone let loose Joker gas for the last 20 minutes. Could not stop smiling. And you could put that theme music anywhere and it automatically ups the quality.
I think its one of those cases of people holding onto nostalgia with too much of a high standard. The first Jurassic Park was incredible. This was never, ever, ever, ever going to be better. But it has a likeable cast and amazing dinosaur moments. And much better than 3. What more could you possibly ask for?
Also another side note, did anyone catch the awesome "revenge" that the T-Rex gets against the Spinosaurus? Didn't spot it the first time. Saw it again last night and noticed.
