I wanted to create a small thread where we could throw out some of these series that have gone above and beyond the standard event tie-in.
So far I highly recommend - Marvel Zombies - Weirdworld - Secret Wars Journal - Attilan Rising - Captain Marvel and Carol Corps - Mighty Avengers - A-Force - Master of King Fu - Old Man Logan - Years of Future Past

I liked Old Man Logan and Future Imperfect. I was a bit underwhelmed by A Force, Armor Wars and Renew Your Vows. I have a copy of YoFP coming in a couple days and will probably have an opinion once I read it

Ultimate End has been pretty good thus far.
Weirdworld #1 was...weird. The art was hard to follow and disjointed. I understand it's beautiful but del Mundo needs to understand layouts better. I'll stick with it, though.

I can't get with Del Mundo. I like his covers, but his interior work isn't anything id consider beautiful. To each is own. Btw try and read a del mundo comic with guided view digitally.... i dare you!

I'll stick with it, though. This is very true. This overly stylistic art is great to look at individually, but within a book when you have to follow the action and story that is taking place, it just adds another unnecessary layer to wade through. Marco Rudy is another artist that immediately comes to mind with this issue, whose art I find incredible to look at, but not for storytelling purposes. But despite that I still found Weirdworld enjoyable, mostly due to Aaron's writing, and the "wierd" world itself is very interesting, and one I'd like to see more of.

finally got around to reading YoFP last night and I was surprisingly underwhelmed by it. Might have been the bar was raised after hearing Bob's thoughts on the podcast last week and for me it just didn't reach my expectations, but I can't say for sure. My main sticking points were that Chrissie seems to be the central figure (or at least who you spend the most time with) but aside from being irritated at being called Chrissie she doesn't really have any personality, and that her power was basically she is a metal version of Reed Richards or Ms. Marvel. I was put off a little by the idea that her power manifests and there is no conflict, no panic as she tries to control this new thing she has no experience with; she goes about the fight as if she has always had them. I prefer the stories where recently manifested mutants would have to learn to control their powers and grow into their role as X-Men.
The little it of world building they did in the book was good and I dig what they are setting up (I would love to read a better story in this setting) but the characters and plot seemed uninspired to me. I caught glimpses of why others seem to like it but overall this one wasn't my cup of tea.

What are the must haves so far? Because I straight up don't care about any of this Secret Wars stuff, but Old Man Logan was enjoyable.

Little AvX was really funny and cute.
Master of Kung Fu is a great book.
If you like Inhumans the Attilan Rising book has been enjoyable.
A-Force has beautiful art.
Infinity Gauntlet is by far the prettiest book, and the story is good. It only shows Thanos towards the end of the first book.
Planet Hulk is my favorite book. The art is incredible and the story is really cool.
Years of Future Past is great for X fans
Where Monsters Dwell is a classic Garth Ennis story from what I can tell.

CHECK THAT: just got a chance to read runaways. I completely dig this book. Molly Hayes is worth the price of admission and makes this book a must have.

I dont think I have the "background" to fully understand the main book. I picked up the first couple or the first one and the zero issue, and I just can't understand what's happening. I feel like I'm just missing entire chapters of this story.

Issue 1 made me feel like that too. In fact I was pretty ticked about it. Issue 2 however, is really the place to start and felt like I didn't need background. Is suggest giving that one a shot and then deciding if you want to continue
