I really enjoyed this movie, they really got the so many things right with this in terms of the tone of the lighting, design, music and actors it just comes together so well to give a real sense of constant tension being played out. Some things didn't surprise as I am sure they were intended to but overall it was more high concept in terms of it delivers a satisfying film but it makes you consider some of the unanswered questions in regards to measuring hard AI in reality and our perception of the rights of a successfully created AI with genuine consciousness.
there's so much more I would love to say but I won't spoil here - once its been out a bit longer or if anyone else has seen it and wants to discuss will jump back in but after watching it last night it really stuck with me some of the complexities relating to AI and what it might mean to us the human creators.
I'll caveat with saying its by no means perfect, it misses in places and at times the acting feels awkward a touch forced but just for the overall concept it's worth checking out if you are lover of Sci Fi. |

Went and saw this last night. Film of the year for me so far. Could not believe how good it was. But Alex Garland hasn't let me down, every film he has had any involvement in is one of my favourites.
Also I know its unfair comparing one film to another, but with artificial intelligence being such a popular theme this year, this really blew the others out of the water. Enjoyed it much more than Chappie or Age of Ultron.
The score was amazing. And the visuals. Knowing Jock was behind the design made me enjoy it even more and you could really see his style. Plus not a shot was wasted.
I love it when I walk out of the cinema and just cannot stop thinking and talking about the movie I just saw.
I'm just hoping that because of its release being so close to Fury Road and Age of Ultron, it doesn't suffer too much financially. Seems the original sci-fi movies of the past few years keep going under the radar. And this year with all the remakes/reboots/sequels its nice to get something totally new.

I only found out last night that Jock was involved in the design so really will have to go see this again - I'm the same this is the movie which has made the most impact on me so far this year.
I heard an interview with Alex Garland on a UK movie podcast when he was doing pre-release marketing and loved his sense of humour and humility about his craft and how in a very honest and relatable way he came to film making.

Another great interview between Edgar Wright and Alex Garland. Haven't heard a bad thing about it either. Kind of nice to see a good movie that isn't comic book related. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who didn't like it of course, but there isn't that predetermined opinion formed from love of source material for a film like this. Or the feel to instantly voice outrage on the internet. And it doesn't have the hype behind it either. Just word of mouth positivity. Hope I didn't jinx myself now. |
