This wasn't even a contest for me personally, but Chrono Trigger wins hands down.

What's the time line on "Classic" video games? If we're talking Pre-PS2 then my favorites are/were:
SNES: -Final Fantasy VI -Earthbound -Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
N64: -Conkers Bad Fur Day -Super Mario 64 -Goldeneye
PS1: -Crash Bandicoot 2 -Spider-Man -Final Fantasy IX
Dreamcast: -Skies of Arcadia -Sonic Adventure -Jet Set Radio

I would say anything 2 or more console cycles old. So in this case, anything from Ps2 / Xbox and beyond.

Captain America and the avengers on genesis. Hands down greatest dialogue in a game ever.

In that case let me add these to the list: Gamecube: -Tales of Symphonia -The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker -Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg PS2: -Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (Favorite game of all time actually) -Shadows of Destiny -Indigo Prophecy Xbox: -The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay -Halo: Combat Evolved -Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee I have a top 3 for every system pretty much.

Did anyone else ever play the Alien Vs Predator game on the Atari Jaguar? That game was awesome!

Mmm there's so much. But for the NES its the big ones like all the Mario's, Mega Man's and Castlevania.
And for the SNES too, games like Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Zelda Link to the Past, Mega Man X and Street Fighter.
The Playstation created my love for RPG's with some great ones like the Final Fantasy games(which were actually good then)Suikoden 1 and 2(which is maybe my favorite of all time)Breath of Fire 3 and Wild Arms.
As for the PS2 my favorites are FF10, Persona 3 and 4, GTA San Andreas, and Dragon Quest 8.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 on the PS2 for me both great games, that hold up pretty well in terms of story. Resident Evil is still pretty great too.

"Classic" game? Without a DOUBT is Mega Man X. Challenging, fun, beautiful and it's megaman. 'Nuff said. I swear I've beat this game like 25 times in my life.
But more recent classic games would have to be either Mario 64 or Halo: Combat Evolved.

These kind of things are hard but off the top of my head here are the games I remember really wowing me when I first played them. Resident Evil Metal Gear Solid Super Mario world Batman Returns SNES Mortal Kombat Street Fighter NHL 95 Golden Eye I'll probably remember more.

Good list, arcticbeast. But I just remembered the greatest game of all time: ROBOTRON.

The lack of Ocarina of Time in this thread is disturbing

I still have my original copies of Suikoden 1-5.

Love those games, its a damn shame they don't make new ones anymore.
