Anybody picking this up? While the old Red Hood and the Outlaws series started amdost a bit of controversy, I feel it got much better over the course of the run. I also feel as though that series gave me a Jason Todd that was redeemed or at least redemmable and quickly became one of my favorite former Robins to rival my fanhood for Grayson.
Long story short(too late), I pre-ordered issue 1 and look to follow this from the get go.

I feel in love with the team, including starfire. People wrote this off in the beginning, assuming lobdell was just going to treat her like an object.... those people were so so wrong. Her story was epic.

I'm picking Grayson up in trade due to budget reasons. Red Hood Arsenal is the only one I pick up in singles because I figure it needs the support more.
I also only pick up a couple of Marvel. Most of my budget goes to Valiant and non big two publishers. I just enjoy those stories more.

I am really loving this title. I think Lobdell has unlocked a gem with the bromance between Roy and Jason, the book is so much fun to read and really embraces the fact it is basically an action comedy.
I think a lot of people wrote this book off because of the last series. Yes the last series wasn't that great because of the misrepresentation of Starfire, however they have now eliminated Starfire and are now just focusing on Jason and Roy's friendship and it's been a real fun ride so far.

Couldn't agree more. This is one fun title and I feel Jason Todd in the New 52 is the character who had the best changes to make the character viable.

It's as good as its been the entire duration of the new 52. The people that complain about how starfire was portrayed, clearly have not read starfire, ever. Its been one of my favorite books for years now, and its getting better. And Kori's character growth has been some of the best across dc.
I literally the opposite of the guys on the podcast, i have to keep my lips sealed most of the time at alot of the comments made. It is what it is. Still love them.

You have a point. I'm still waiting for the final trade of RHATO but Starfire received a ton of great development after the first issue that offended everyone. She was shown as a strong confident leader and warrior.
Based on what Bob has said about the Gail Simone Red Sonja, Starfire needed up developing along those lines.

If there are boobs present, certain people WILL be offended. Those people act like the creators only focus on that, which could not be farther from the truth. Why is a beautiful women, who is open with her self, offensive? And don't come at me with the "what about the children" comments. These books haven't been "for kids" in eons. I am offended that people get offended at strong female leads, just because they have less clothes on than another character. To me, and lots of other people, it is maddening that certain people don't stop complaining about it. I will defend the starfire situation till my dying day, she has ALWAYS been this way. If people don't like it, just move on and don't read it. Why do they need to poo poo on it for those that actually get it and enjoy it? They need to quite ruining my vibe, bro. the starfire book is phenomenal, one of my favorites. If it was an All ages book, i wouldn't touch it, because THAT would be an inaccurate portrayal of kory. And that is a fact. I have to be honest Bob, i get a little bit irritated when you call panels "problematic". No, they are not. You can take issue with what ever you choose. But showing starfire BEING HERSELF, as she has ALWAYS BEEN, is far from problematic. How is a beautiful body problematic? It is not demeaning nor demoralizing. Whats demeaning here is criticizing a character, or creator, for telling stories with a character who has always been this way just because a person takes issue with the female body. Why is a book about BDSM ok, but Kory looking the way she does, cause issue? That is backwards. Again, these books have arguably never truly been for kids, so that argument is thrown out the window. With all due respect, i am glad thats off my chest. Sorry if it seems too forward, just been on my mind for a minute.

Jonathan, First off, you needn't apologize for disagreeing civilly, as that is what can make for an interesting discussion! I've very much enjoyed the new Starfire series, and as you do, I find that Ms. Conner & Mr. Palmiotti have her characterization here-in pretty much on-model. Why I use the phrase "problematic" in regards to certain panels is not due to the appearance of her body or certain anatomical features per se, but more in the way that the "camera angles" that are used to highlight them are not a function of the story, but just perpetuate the "male gaze" aspect, and which seem to run counter to the loving portrayal of Kory, and the growth they are bringing to her. Additionally, although many take the description "all-ages" as meaning "only for kids" (and that includes the publishers themselves!), when I use that descriptive, it's to denote a book for everyone, of every age and gender, and I feel that Starfire is *this close* to being a superb all-ages book on the basis of the fine character work being done by the creators. Stjepan Sejic's Sunstone, simply because it's a very-much "adults only" title, needn't be concerned with how its themes and imagery might be received by a young audience, where a more mainstream book's lesser images might then cause more of a mixed message. An interesting quirk is that despite its very adult subject matter and usage of full-on nudity, across three trade paperbacks, Mr. Sejic's series (which I just quickly skimmed through again), might not have one panel that I would describe as being posed in the "broke-back" or "Escher Girl" style, and the women depicted are always subjects with agency, and not objects. In that respect, when Kory is being shown as having that agency and being in control of her own sexuality, those panels depicting her in tortuous or "gaze-y" poses undermine the story-telling, at least in my opinion, for what that's worth. ps) While I whole-heartedly agree that the DC New 52 titles were not meant for young readers, I would submit that wasn't the case for the "old" DC books from the Thirties through to the first Crisis; after that, all bets are off! rrr

I don't know about thereat of you but I just ordered the Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade one shot to see that version of Jason Todd and the fate he met. The New 52 has definitely done wonders for Jason Todd. Pre-Flashpoint he was a character that nobody seemed to know what to do with and he ended up being quite stagnant. The reboot has given him a new purpose that really seems to have gelled with his character and helped him have actual character progression.
