well, the last couple weeks I've only had 1 or 2 books come in, so there hasn't been much to featurein a books of the week thread, but this week I got my hands on 5 new books so I'll get this party started!
this week I read:
Rocket Raccoon 10
The Maxx Maximized 17
Cluster 3
Spider-Gwen 3
Black Science 13
there was some really fun stuff in this pile that made my book of the week a tough decision. Rocket Raccoon continues to be fun, though I will admit the last couple issues haven't knocked it out of the park for me like the first story arc did. Spider-Gwen continues to build, which I think is a good thing since a lot of folks didn't think it started strong. I'm currently on the fence on this book as I love the art and who doesn't love her costume design, but without a strong story this one might not make it onto my rather limited pull-list-budget. If it keeps going like it has, it might stick around though.
the last 3 books are really where the decision this week was tough. Cluster has been very good in my opinion, and I really like how the story developed in issue 3. I think this thing will be awesome as a trade, but I have been enjoying the hell out of it month to month.
What can I say about The Maxx? Issue 17 was a big chunk of the story that i have been waiting 23 years to read about (yes, this is my own damn fault) and this book continues to be one of my all-time favorites.
Lastly, my book of the week: Black Science 13. Thank god I can pull more than 1 issue a month, but if I did this would be the book I would get. The pacing of the entire series has been amazing, The only art I may love as much (or more) than Sam Keith's would be Matteo Scalera's. This issue has a good chunk of action and a good chunk of back story along with a relatively big Nut Punchtm (I hope that's not too spoilery), which is just how I like my stories. I cannot get enough of this book.
