Suprised nobody mentioned that this costume is heavily inspired by the 90's Aquaman design in Peter Davids run (only thing missing is the lack of a hand), a lot more than the Namor one mentioned. Peter David even tweeted about it.

Normally, every time I listen to a Talking Comics show it gets me pumped and excited for comics. This time... as Bob would say, "not so much."
Don't get me wrong, the show this week was great. But man oh man, hearing all that Battleworld talk had me cringing. This event is supposed to be WELCOMING to new readers? How's that possible when veteran readers can't even make heads or tails of it? I know all the information isn't available yet but from what I heard, that sounds like a confusing mess. I'm sure it will wind up being a case where you can pick up just about any book that catches your eye but trying to explain Battleworld to anyone currently not reading comics sounds like a massive endeavor. I do appreciate that you guys tried for those that are interested though; all it solidified for me is that I'm going to weather Battleworld like a storm and get back into picking up Marvel books after it's over.
Maybe it's my decision to also sit-out on Convergence but it seems like the big two are actively trying to get me out of comics for a few months later this year. I know it's only two months but that's an eternity in today's culture.

I'm not so sure, as this one did come first, but perhaps it's an undersea mash-up?

Most heartbreaking news from this episode (but I'm only half way through so there's plenty of time) Andrea Sorrentino is exclusive to Marvel?! Damn DC really dropped the ball on that one. He had two beloved runs with I,Vampire and Green Arrow, and one of the most distinctive styles on the DC roster and that's still not enough for them to snag him. Dammit DC!

Great show, guys. Though shame on Bobby for calling in to question the greatness of Punch-Drunk Love near the end

Lenny, My approach is similar; I'm just going to buy books that strike my fancy, whether through creative teams or characters, with no thought (well, maybe a smidge) about keeping a run going. I've been applying that logic to regular monthlies over the last few years, and it's served me well, although I do have less to talk about at the comics water cooler!

I've been applying that logic to regular monthlies over the last few years, and it's served me well, although I do have less to talk about at the comics water cooler! Mr Bob, It is a necessity at this point. Main Events are off the menu, and I've stopped picking up First Issues lest I be tempted to collect until the end. I did Infinity, and Forever Evil, which were both solid. I ended my Crossover/Event purchasing with Battle Of The Atom. When these two events were announced there wasn't even a thought about whether or not I was going to participate but then some of the creative teams have enticed me. I'll read anything with Swamp Thing in it, but then I found out Swampy's Dad is writing the Convergence book. Luckily the DC books being on hiatus has freed up some funds so these events are unique. Do you think this might be a good testing ground for Events and Crossovers to be more creative team focussed using satellite titles as the main pull? Thinking on the Image topic you guys were discussing on yesterday's episode, as much as there is an Image bias when picking up independent books I believe the fact that Image can pull in top writers and artists is a big reason for their success. There are plenty of Image titles that don't sell an amazing amount, where as a lot of people will pick up a Kelly Sue Deconnick Ghost over at Dark Horse or an Alan Moore book over at Avatar.

Lenny,
I can picture this period making me more experimental, although that may end up with me starting series and then trade-waiting.
The companies hype these events as "changing the universe forever", which never seems to come true, but in this case, it just might be the case for my regular monthly purchasing habits, where "time is running out" !

I'm getting the entire Secret Wars. To each their own. I listen to a lot of discussion of books I don't like. Let me have this Secret Wars discussion!
But if you've been reading hte entire Avengers/New Avengers run, I honestly don't know why you'd then skip the main Secret Wars book that will be the giant end of the run.

hey guys, sorry this is just a nit pick. But Mark Millar is pronouced like Miller. Its not a big deal, its just one of those things that bugs me. I really don't wanna come off as a d-bag, please dont take it that way, its just one of thsoe things lol
As far as secret wars goes, i definitley put the main title onto my pull list. when the time comes, if one of the tie in titles peaks my interest, i will pick a couple up. But i have no problem just reading the core book to get the idea of what is happening to my marvel u. Im buying much much much more of the dc convergence books.
And i gotta keep it 100 percent real here, i have never, ever, hated an issue of a comic as much as i did plunder. I LOVE pirates, even a bit obsessed. But there wasn't anything postive about plunder, for me, except for the fact that it ended and i can pretend to have not seen it. Everything in it was a turn off. Sorry for the harshness, its just how i feel. I really want to find a good on going pirate title, i haven't had one in a long time. Im really not a "trader waiter", i really dont like picking them up unless i have to. Thats just me.
Great episode though, im gonna check out silk now

I haven't listened to the pod yet, so sorry if I'm repeating anything. I really enjoyed Plunder. I thought it had a great pace to it and some genuine scares. Where other writers might have dragged the story out, perhaps introducing the cast before giving one horror reveal for the final page turn, Lanf got us introduced and onboard our horror ship quickly, but in a way that didn't feel rushed. I found the kitchen scene, to be genuinely chilling. McKinley's art has an indie vibe to it that differentiates it from a lot of art that is arguably more skilled but more generic. To be fair though, I was sold after reading the creative teams names - Swifty Lang and Scuds McKinley! Best names ever.
I quite enjoyed Silk, but having now read Spuder-Gwen #1, now feel that was a far superior book. I do feel a bit bad comparing the two (I should have room for two female spiders in my life) but just couldn't help it.
Bitch Planet continues to be amazing. I like the idea of these Special Third issues. Using a "golden age" style to denote flashbacks it a favourite visual tool of mine and this issue did that well. The themes of personal identity, body and "the gaze" were explored well without ever being preachy. Lovethis book. Love it!
Did none of you read Mandrake the Magician on Dynamite? That was my book of the week. The art is beautiful!!!!
