Welcome back to another episode of Talking Comics. On this week’s show, we get right to the point and talk comics because, well, we’re a comic book podcast and that’s what we do. The books we discuss can be found in detail below. In the second half of the show, we go through an abundance of listener questions that have piled up over the last little while. It’s a good show. Currently stuck on #54 on my Top 100 list. I'm working harder on this at work than I am working on work at work.

On the topic of X-Men, for awhile there it was my favorite X-book. I agree with Stephanie that the cattiness, particularly between Rachel and Storm, felt out of character. It seemed to really diminish Ororo and her lost history as leader of the X-Men. On the other hand I like how Wood wrote Jubilee and Monet, two characters I had lost touch with. Yeah, it was weird giving the youngest member a baby, but Wood made it work. And best of all he knew how to write a succinct and effective story arc. None of that meandering you get from Bendis.....

First time I've not been able to read a book before the podcast. Couldn't find it at any of my LCSs, which says more for them than the book, but still. I don't want to see a bunch of main stream titles, but you might want to make sure they're pretty available. I understand Amazon was even out of stock on it. Even though it doesn't sound like my cup of tea, I value y'all's opinions and if it's good enough and If i can find some, I'll get them out to the kids.

All-New X-Men has been my favorite X-book. It continues to be great.

A show emphasising diversity shouldn't be indulging in aggregating best of lists that structurally will simply perpetuate the norm..... Batman #1, Superman #2 etc etc.
How about interviewing 100 listeners on a character apiece that means something to them, 100 different characters.
Give voice to the singular, not the aggregate.
Fun show - Trevor Harsine earned his chops on 2000AD, in tandem with Frank Quietly whose influence is clear.

"B", As I believe that most of our listeners will, as I will be doing, selecting personal favorites, I think the master list will contain far more surprises than you'd imagine. On my own Top 100 for example, neither Batman nor Superman is in the Top Twenty, a slice which features eight super-heroines, a Golden Age JSA'er, a super-villain, and Luke Cage.

I posted this on Twitter but had to do it here as well. Bobby, Stephanie, Steve, Bob. Thank you for this pod cast and this community you have built. I wish it was around in 1990 when I started seriously collecting comics. Before the movies and all the current fan fare way back when as Image comics was starting it was actually a very lonely hobby for me. There was very few folk to talk to or share opinions with. And most didn't treat this hobby with any respect. Now comics are all the rage, which I love, but as I said I do wish pod casts and social media was more popular back then, it would have been easier to hear about great books. And that's everything I ever wanted attached to this hobby that I and my wife enjoy so much.
Thanks for letting me post
Brad.

As I've often said, but that always bears repeating, the thing that makes me the proudest about our enterprise is this community of friends that has grown with us. I know that I speak for everyone here in saying that we're glad to have you and your family aboard for the ride!

It would not be possible for the aspect of Thor that we see via thought bubble to 'say that shit' because regardless of any perceived message inherent in the thought that persona is not the persona in charge of the body. Aaron has used that to show that there is clearly a difference between the inner and outer Thor persona's.
The more Asgardian person of Thor would not, in my estimation, be caught up in the Midgardian struggles of being woman. I hope it stays that way and those two aspects of the character are kept separate.

I think it was Maria Norris who gave the Utopia recommendation, if I remember rightly. That is an excellent, excellent recommendation. I kept recommending it to people back when I watched the first season on Netflix a while ago, and no-one had heard of it at all. So it's cool that there are actually more people that are into it. It's a Channel 4 show, by the way. I think the show Misfits was also a Channel 4 show.
Even though he was a huge bad guy in the series, I found the character of Arby to be a really compelling and interesting villain. The scenes with Arby and the scenes with Jessica Hyde, and especially their scenes together were definitely my favourite in the series. The cinematography in that show is also great. They actually made dull, grey England look good, especially the scenes in the countryside. The whole theme of the creepy posh old guys of the British establishment was done really well too, as the British establishment does come across as quite creepy in reality. Anyway, it's definitely a show that, especially comic book fans, should watch if they get the chance. The first season is still on Netflix UK I'm pretty sure.

They don't seem to have a thread of their own so just a shout out to the short interview shows that have been going up. I especially enjoy their concise nature as well as the clear friendship between all participants.

I especially enjoy their concise nature as well as the clear friendship between all participants. Thank you! I'm really really happy to hear that. I've been trying hard to make them fun but informative for the interviewees and listeners, so any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Are there any in particular that you've enjoyed more so far? Any interviewee suggestions?
