This could be really great news, or really passable news. The Toby Spider-Man franchise was bad. The Garfield Spidey isn't good. While I think the MCU has it's flaws and gross sheen of Hollywoodization (versus Marvelization)... Marvel Studios really killed it with the Captain America films and Guardians. The Avengers was entertaining and almost hit the spot.
Spidey is integral to the Civil War story... but if Sony has final say on creative control and his representation in the joint property film production... they could really pollute these upcoming films the same way they shit in their own backyards in the standalone Spider-Man movies.

I don't see why everyone hated Amazing Spider-Man 2 so much (besides the fact that every year seems to have a punching bag movie that people hate for the sake of hating but that's a different story) And I'm also extremely sad to see Andrew Garfield go. Whatever the flaws of the ASM series, he wasn't it for me and no actor out there has as much love for the character as he does. BUT this is still amazing news. I'm sure Marvel will handle this very well. And fingers crossed they just merge the ASM movies with Marvel studios. It wouldn't be hard.

The new world reserve currency is about to be Marvel bucks, cause with this deal they are about to earn the license to print their own money!

Wisecracking as Spider-man was good, and some cases great. But, he never had that Puny Parker moment that made him Peter Parker. He was always the "cool" nerd, as opposed to the one that was bullied. It was almost like they combined the college version of Peter into a ball with the pre-spider-man high school version. Just never felt quite right.

Another thought to completely derail the conversation, but 3 different Spider-Men actors within the span of 10 years = Spider-Man is the new James Bond. So if Tobey Maguire was Connery, Garfield was Moore (lets just ignore Lazenby), who will be Timothy Dalton? Then again, Marvel Studios are family friendly so maybe they'll skip the darker T-Dal and go straight for Brosnan? Being Marvel, there'll have to be the gratuitous sweaty, shirtless shot in the trailer so they won't go too nerdy, he'll still have to be "dreamy". But also unknown enough to be paid less as Marvel are known to do. Best theory I've seen so far is the guy from Maze Runner. Didn't see the movie and don't know him from anything, but he's a face now.
I'm also wondering if they'll go origin story again which would be a terrible move, or pull a BvS:DoJ and have a Spider-Man who's been around already for a while. Maybe married to MJ, working for the Bugle. In that case, it would be absolutely crazy awesome if they brought back Tobey Maguire.

.......In that case, it would be absolutely crazy awesome if they brought back Tobey Maguire. I can't think of a universe or situation where it would ever be awesome to bring back Tobey Maguire. I'm not trying to hate on your opinion here... but he's really the worst. Spider-Man 2 was pretty cool though despite him.

I don't think he did a bad job at all... They just put him out of place for his personality. I think they really botched it making the Garfield reboot an origin story reboot too. He definitely would have been better off as a college/adult Peter/Spidey as a starting point. It's kind of a bummer that he's leaving the franchise. He really could have hit his stride on par with this personality and the "maturity"/self-assurance level he exhibited in the new films. On a separate note altogether.... They really nailed the costume and locomotion in ASM2. I was so stoked to see it come together visually...if not so much in plot.

But I love ASM 1 + 2 too. But hey, they went nerdy for Maguire and then "cool" for Garfield. Each one divided everyone's opinion. I doubt this next one will be universal either. Thats comics.
