Okay, so I think in a month or two I am gonna pick up a next gen console. I haven't decided for sure if I want a PS4/Xbox but I'm leaning more towards the PS4 at this point. Please please please don't let this turn into a "Fanboy" thread, or a thread with negative discussions. I feel like this is a place that we could actually have an intelligent conversation about the consoles. I really want someone to convert me to the other side. My reasons for keeping with Sony: - I already have PS+
- I already have BF4 for PS3 (so I would only have to pay $10 to get it)
- I really want to play The Order 1866. It looks so badass.
- I don't really want to be on camera all the time.
Xbox One pros (for me) - Forza is the best racing game (IMHO)
- Voice control seems really futuristic and intuitive/fun.
- Xbox Live was more well put together last generation.
- Titanfall looks amazing.
So again, if anyone's interested, let's talk about this with some dignity and respect!

I'm a Sony guy so I have to obviously say Sony. I love PS+ and so far this gen I say that it's better than XBL. They're already giving out a good amount of free games (Bioshock Infinite, Don't Starve, Contrast, Resogun and Devil May Cry). I feel exclusive wise Sony has the upper hand also, The Order, Killzone, Uncharted, Infamous. Xbox has Titanfall but remember that is also coming to PC. The controller on the PS4 is great as well, the size is perfect and feels great while playing. Not to mention the touch pad is pretty handy in some games. I know there's more I am missing but in my eyes the PS4 is the better console for gaming. Oh and its 100 dollars cheaper.

The price point and controller are also positive points for me.
I think the Xbox One controller looks blocky and a little bit uninspired.

I have both consoles. I think they're both great. Different, but great. It's all about what you want to do With it. You wanna strictly game? I'd go with PS4. The voice commands are cool, but don't always work as well as they could. In time I think that the whole TV/gaming infrastructure will be really really amazing. And yeah. The reason I got one now was titanfall. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with PS4. PS plus is a tremendous value and I like what's coming for the system in the way of exclusives and whatnot. Go where your friends are. That's my advice. You can't really go wrong either way though

I do not own either of them but if I had to choose between the two I'd go with a PS4. It's $100 cheaper and I have no interest in moving around and waving my arms or making hand gestures to operate my console or play a game. I know you can use the controller instead of using Kinect but guess what that makes Kinect? A gimmick! Also another reason I would buy a PS4 over Xbox One is a technical one. Let me explain: The Xbox One has THREE operating systems. One for Xbox Live/Gaming, one for TV/Internet and all that jazz and one to manage the other two...You know what that means? Less resources available to game with. ANOTHER reason I'd go with PS4 is I really like the Sony exclusives. Infamous Second Son? Last of Us? GOD OF WAR (if they make another)...I'm sold!

I have all 3 systems (Wii U, PS4, Xbox One) and I'd say probably go with PS4 for now. If you have PS Plus they pretty much give you a small library of games out the door (and continue to add free games every month like Outlast in February) but both have their merits.

I've not nearly enough reading up on this, but I have seen much more advocates for PS4 over XboxOne. We are really leaning towards Xbox again, mostly because I like the multimedia aspect, I used the hell out of my Kinect to get in workouts when I'm stuck at home with a baby and because I do most of my serious gaming via Steam, not on console. Am I correct in thinking that Xbox is still the best option for me, or can someone give me some significant reason why I should consider switching?

The price point is the only reason I would consider PS4 in your case. If you have cable and actually use kinect that should be reason enough already to stick with your allegiance.

We don't have cable. What's that got to do with it? We do watch plenty of stuff, but we don't pay for cable.

Ahh yeah that's what I do too.
The reason that cable should be involved in your decision on which console to buy is this: You can plug your digital cable box directly into the input of the Xbox One so that you can control your cable with your Xbox. For Example: you can say "Xbox- Go to ESPN" and it will switch to that channel. "Xbox- Go to AMC" and so on and so forth. You can snap tv into the side of your screen so that you could watch the news or The Talking Dead or whatever while you exercise with the Kinect.
Pretty cool overall, but that's not really something I'm into. Seriously amazing tech though.

Ok, thanks for explaining. Like I said, I haven't done much research on it. We have a 14 mnth old, so we don't get much gaming done these days and have decided that we won't upgrade the console until we get more time to use it, so I've put off the research till we're ready to buy. We use internet for pretty much all viewing, in multiple ways. Lots of downloads, Netflix, etc.
I should also clarify that I don't do much co-op playing, too hard to line up my game time with others. So my big concerns are game selection, multi-media goodies, reliability in system mechanics & interface and I do like Kinect.

PS4 does do other things besides gaming ( Netflix and such), but the real draw is the gaming. PS plus is a tremendous value with the free games each month. And the go to console wise for indies. I like the UI for the ps4 a bit better than XB1. Seems much cleaner. But again it's all personal preference.

XB1 is built more as an All-in-One multimedia device while the PS4 is a video game console. Both are good and both have their merits. I just chose to get the PS4 because of PS+ and the inclusion of more PC exclusive games making their way onto the console.
