I'm just starting to read it. I've heard plenty of people say that it's great so i downloaded the first 4 issues and I'll read all of them before I decide either way.
Do you feel that this is written for women or will men enjoy this as well.
I'm only about half way through issue #0 then I fell asleep. Not because it was boring but because it was really late and I was laying in bed hoping It would relax me enough to go to sleep.
I liked the fight with the big guy at the beginning but then Batman shows up and the next page sh'e Batgirl. that part happened fast.
Thoughts?

It's a constant for me and those early Batgirl issues got me in to the rest of the New 52.
The #0 issues are tricky as they were all written at around issue #12/#13 so as much as they explain origins, they are still working off of the assumption readers have kept up with the other issues. I would read from #1 and see how you get on.
Enjoy!!

I was picking it up monthly, but due to the constant disruptions from events I've grown weary of the series. I think the series is definitely in the top 5 of DC's current books, but they need to give the series some room between all these events to continue to develop Batgirl in the New 52.

I love the series, and I'm a dude. I pick it up every month, and it's one of the only titles in the 52 that I've read the entire run on. I wouldn't say they are aimed at a particular gender, but they feature a strong female lead, that doesn't scream "Girl Power Fem-Sisters! Men suck!" but moreso says, "I'm Batgirl, and I'm awesome."
The writing is consistently solid and Barbara has some of the best character development in the 52.
The art in the series overall is fantastic, and I'd even go as far as to say the first few issues had some of the best and most intricate mind-blowing art I've ever seen.

Awesome comments! I appreciate that. I'll keep reading. The art in Issue 0 was fantastic. I'll for sure continue. As a father of a young girl I'm all for strong female characters I'm not down with man-haters so I was happy to read your comments.
Looking forward to catching up.

That's why we have tea parties and she has a BB gun and compound bow that she shoots quite well. She athletic and confident. I never really appreciated that until I had her.

It was one of the first New 52 titles I picked up. I dearly loved it and thought I'd pick it up till the end. As much as it pains me to say it though, I dropped it this week. Too many crossovers in recent months have just thrown me from the book. Maybe when DC stops shoehorning it into every Bat-vent, I'll pick it up again. Until then...no.

So Im up to issue 7 right now. Trying to catch up. If I had all the books up to current I would be reading right now. Im loving this book.
Its an exercise in patience for me to slow down. Trying not to spend too much money right away.

After the main Batman book, Batgirl is easily the best Bat-family title. It carries all of Gail Simone's hallmarks and I don't think it's aimed at any particular sex, I'm pretty certain that's not how Gail writes. Babs gets put through the ringer time after time and the whole thing of her being lucky to be able to be Batgirl again, let alone walk, is handled wonderfully. Also, The Ventriloquist is one of the most genuinely creepy villains of recent times!
The backlash from the fans when Gail was taken off the book is testament to its quality. It does suffer for the interruptions, but stick with it as it's genuinely one of the standout titles of the New 52 era.

Sorry that I'm late for the party, but this "forum-y" stuff is still new to me!
After DC blew up the "Old 52", the only title I was actively collecting was Batgirl! As a HUGE fan of Gail Simone's work on Birds of Prey, and having read of her desire to do right by the character of Barbara Gordon in her return to the cowled life, it was a natural purchase!
To date, I have never felt let down by the creative team on any issue, but as it has been brought up, the constant interruptions for "events" has been a disruption to the flow of the over-all story-line. That said, Ms. Simone's "DotF" cross-overs were stand-outs in emphasizing the personal cost to those caught in The Joker's cross-hairs!
Carry on, Bob ps) If you've become a fan of Ms. Simone and her work with "Babs", her Birds of Prey run is from issue #56 to #108! rrr

Is there a good jumping on point with this series so I don't have to start from #1?

Is there a good jumping on point with this series so I don't have to start from #1? You should be able to jump on after this months Gothtopia issue.
