I have been using a self-created application to keep track of and manage my pull list. Each week, when a book on my list comes out, I get an e-mail notifying me which books are coming out (checking against comiclist.com), their cost and the total price if I was to pick them all up. WHY do I use this instead of just maintaining a pull at my LCS? Because I hate being OBLIGATED to buy every book on my pull list. Sometimes I don't want every book (or cannot afford them) and when I say "no thanks" I get a speech about how they expect me to purchase books on my pull list yadda-yadda. So, I've abandoned my pull list and I just pick up the copies I want when I want them without any pressure from the shop. The biggest drawback to my system is that sometimes my small comic book shop only orders the exact amount of books (or so they say) that people are pulling...so if I am not pulling 'Rocket Girl' for example I will not get a copy. Another really handy aspect is I can "watch" some titles - those are titles I don't buy much but still want to be notified when released.
So, my question to you fine folks is: Would you use something like this? The problems I have at my LCS may not be the same for you. I feel that I have a very specific problem and I've created myself a very specific solution that may not apply to others. If this is something others would use, my plan would be to convert my application into a public website on the internet, for free of course. I am curious what you guys and gals think! Be honest, you won't hurt my feelings if you think this is idiotic because it still benefits me . I have nothing to gain except more practice programming in a new language I've been eyeing up...
EDIT:
I also want to add some cool features if others start using it...
-Ability to view other peoples' pull lists and be able to copy their list (like the pull list comparison thread).
-Have a link to your pull list for forum threads. (useful?)
-Statistics of how many people are pulling each title. I envision sorting by popularity to see whats "trending" (comixology does this though)
-Option to receive a weekly text message notification instead of e-mail (this would require your phone number and carrier some people may not be willing to give this info out, understandably)
-GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS
