Highly recommend Through the Woods!!
also thought Leaving Megalopolis was terrific. It's Good Gail. I think Secret Six #1 was bad Gail.

Such a great episode guys! I especially loved the Dinosaur talk at the beginning. I am SO psyched for Jurassic World and I've probably seen the trailers about 30 times. I really hope that they give Bryce Dallas Howard's character something to do because I really like her and whilst I'm totally on board the Chris Pratt train I think that he does really well with an equal co-star to play off of. I have to disagree with your opinion of Jurassic Park 3 though, I love that movie. The scenes in the 'aviary' give me chills every time. To be fair though, I was 9 when it came out so there's a lot of nostalgia for me.
Anyway: comics.
Super intrigued by Through The Woods up until you started talking about how scary it was. Might give it a miss until I get used to my new living situation. I like horror as a story-telling device and I think that the imagery and metaphor can be great but I get night-terrors very easily and do not do well with scary stuff.
I was TOTALLY surprised by your "nerd blind-spots"! Which I guess goes to show that you got my question perfectly. Although I am on board with Steve's disinterest in table-top card games. I don't know why but I just can't get into those which is weird because I love board games and DnD.

Glad to see you Bobby and Steve are going to give The Valiant a shot. Valiant has been consistently good to great the entire run. If I had to cut my whole pull apart I would probably just get the Valiant titles. The Harbinger books especially have had a great long form story.

Guys, Thanks again for a great podcast. I am very glad that Image, Marvel, and other companies are making comics that appeal to your sensibilities. I share many of your tastes and enjoy many of the same books. But I'm not sure if you realize how dismissive and harsh you can sound towards comic books that aren't designed towards your sensibilities. And in turn, how dismissive and hash that sounds towards folks that have those sensibilities. Even if you personally find those sensibilities somewhat dated or old fashioned, that doesn't mean they are bad or detrimental towards the industry. It is the imperative of the new and the young to displace the old. That's biology and evolution. But please don't be so enamored with your own taste and place in history that you fail to honor and cherish what has come before.
Sorry to sound like a nag. I thoroughly enjoy your podcast and praise and love for all things progressive and new. But the lack of reverence and respect for what has come before is hard to hear sometimes. Maybe some more historical context from Bob could help. What seems old and dated now was cutting edge, progressive and new at one time.
Cheers, Jorge

Jorge,
We always do our absolute best to be respectful of others and their opinions. I would say we go out of our way to say on multiple occasions that hair because we don't like something that doesn't mean you are wrong for doing so.
We also have the steward of the classic on our show to make sure none of us get to far afield when it comes to the newest, latest best.
Do you have n example for me of when we were this kind of dismissive?

I, too, just read Dr Strange: The Oath last week for the first time, and indeed it is phenomenal. By miles and leagues and lightyears the best Dr Strange tale i've ever laid eyes upon. I want BKV and Marcos Martin to do all of the things.

I don't remember it being brought up on the podcast but is everyone else excited about the Cassie Lang news. I love the Scott Lang Ant-Man and have always loved the Scott/Cassie relationship. It gets me more pumped for the Ant-Man series.

First, i am not sure what you did differently on this episode but the sound quality was excellent. Specifically, it sound like Stephanie was at the table with you...so whatever you are doing do more of it!
Second, Steve, if you have not already, i strongly recommend reading The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan. Its a great physical read, but if your commute is crappy like mine, the audiobook reader is excellent.
Lastly-the Humble Book bundle has a ton of great Dynamite comics. Including, rather serendipitously, Shaft #1...gonna have to get me at least one digital copy and a physical copy as well I think.
Thanks for a wonderful show!
And Mr. Huw P, thank you for starting this post, I would offer you a hug(as instructed by those talking games folks) but I am not in Cardiff, so instead I will hug my phone.($())$8&!___

For good supernatural books I recommend the Dresden Files series. Book 2 is Fool Moon and without spoiling it involves werewolf myths. Yes plural.

Great podcast as usual. I especially enjoyed the discussion of licenced books. I seem to come from the other side of the fence to you guys - I've never read any Batman/Spider-Man/Superman books as I'm happy just watching the films. Im not normally interested in superhero comics, with the exception of Thor and Elektra which I started getting due to your recommendations. One of the reasons I started with Thor #1 was because it sounded totally different to the films, and I love it. One of the reasons I enjoyed the discussion was that it showed how people from all backgrounds and viewpoints can find something for them in the media of comics. Another point for the 'what I love about comics' thread. I'm glad Stephanie gave Transformers Windblade a shot. Most of the Transformers books from IDW have nothing (apart from names) to do with the old cartoon, and is almost unrecognisable from the old Marvel comic series. There's such a wide variety of titles available and I would recommend to anyone: Transformers vs GI Joe (2014) by Tom Scioli and John Barber - my favourite comic at the moment. The crazy storyline is like nothing I've ever read before and Tom's 70's inspired art (coloured by crayons!!) is divine! Megatron is some badass who has a throne inside a giant dinosaur's mouth! Utter genius! Last Stand of the Wreckers - is a superb stand alone story, with plenty of violence and a twisty turns plot. I'd say no prior knowledge of Transformers is required. Sorry to jump on the subject, but whenever Transformer comics get mentioned I get excited! XD
