I make it to NYCC every year, but that's the only one. I would love to get to ECCC some day, but since I've got a little guy now, it could be a few years before that happens. Last year was especially fun since I got to spend lots of time with my TC pals and we did a little podcasting right there at the con. I think NYCC is pretty amazing, especially if you cater it to your interests. I always try to get some face time with favorite creators, find some unique artwork and do a few rounds through the main floor for basic people watching and to scope out the game booths. There are also always incredible after parties in NY, so I recommend finding one (or two)! I admit, I'm not a fan of panels, so I don't usually attend them. Can't stand wasting time in lines or sitting in a room for too long, too many people I want to see and talk to. My question is for any of you who have taken a kid to a con, when did you start? I'm wondering when I should attempt it with my little monster. What are some of the challenges you faced and can you offer any tips for having fun with a kid in tow? I'd like to hear any good recommendations too. I have a 5 and 2 year old. My oldest has a bad case of "I-want-this-itis." As stated earlier I go to Heroescon and they put the dealers tables up front and god help me if he were to see the toy venders. I really would love to take him and definitely have to adjust accordingly to make his and my experience fun. I don't think he would enjoy standing in line for signatures but I really think he'd dig meeting and looking at all the artists. Also he has the attention span of a gnat so we'd probably arrive and an hour later he'd be bored. But I have seen other kids his age there so it can be done.

"Attention span of a gnat" <--- Now I know how to explain my son's similar attention span.
There have to be some tips & tricks out there. In fact, if I can find some, I'll write a Nature Vs. Nerdture piece on taking kids to conventions!

To people in the UK, I'd heartily recommend Leeds' Thought Bubble convention. I've been for the past couple of years and its fantastic. It's the only comic convention I've been to, but it's very friendly and there's a wide range of talent there (last year had Matt Fraction, Fiona Staples and a whole host of indie artists/writers). A great place to meet people and get chatting. In 2012 I rabdomly found Pia Guerra (Y the last man) and she did me a great sketch. I went there for the first time last year, it was amazing! Before Thought Bubble I had only been to Wales Comic Con and Sci-Fi Weekender, which were fun but had very little in the way of comic creators and seemed obsessed with just actors and celebrities. Very impressed with Thought Bubble, a comic con with just comic creators, ranging from the big two to small press. Highly recommended!

I just have to make a quick shoutout to Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, Oregon which sadly had its last show last year. I had been going to Stumptown since 2008, long before WWP and RCCC were around, and it really shaped my life in an amazing way. The shows focus on local creators always inspired me to write my own comics so I could one day be behind the booth for once. I'm glad that Portland now has at least a couple major cons throughout the year, but I'll always remember when Stumptown was all I had as a kid. It was usually in April so now would be the time where I'd get really excited about it, but since its gone now all I can do is reflect on the many great memories it gave me. Portland misses you already, Stumptown!

Going to SpringCon 2014 in MN with a friend. He'll be able to make it on the second (and last day) of the Con with me. Still debating whether or not I should go the first day since I'm really the only one out of all my friends who reads comics religiously so if I go the first day, it'll probably be alone. Has anyone gone to a Con by themselves and was it worth it? My first Con I went to was last year's FallCon 2013 with my little brother. It was pretty awesome but I didn't buy much because I wasn't really prepared and was also overwhelmed. This year though, I will DEFINITELY take advantage of some of the deals. Anyone else going to SpringCon this year? Also, I had NO IDEA that MN was having Wizard World for the first time this year. One of my friends told me like, the day it was happening that MN was having Wizard World. I wasn't able to make it but I guess it doesn't really matter because I went to celebrate FCBD at my LCS anyways. Next year I'll be more prepared

I'm going and got the Photo Op ticket for both Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie! Also, anyone from the NY-NJ-PA area going to Special Edition: NYC?.....I'm glad we are having a show similar to Heroescon in this area. Hopefully it becomes a yearly thing!

So Philly Comic Con was awesome and lots of fun....I'll be going next year for more than one day and save enough to buy more stuff (just got a replica Coin from Game of Thrones <the one Arya got from the faceless man> and an Infinity Gauntlet oven mitt!). Now I have nothing until NYCC (for which I was able to score a 4-day pass)

Now I have nothing until NYCC (for which I was able to score a 4-day pass) Glad you enjoyed Philly! Sorry I missed seeing you there! This was my first convention since going to some Star Trek conventions as a teen, and it was a little overwhelming (I don't remember so many people at the last con I went to!) but such an awesome time. Sebastian Stan is a total sweetheart. I have gushed fangirlingly over him more on my Twitter so I won't subject y'all to that here but suffice to say he made my birthday present to myself of going to the con to see him totally worth it with a hug and kiss on the cheek. There might have been slight swoonage. I also got to meet Matt Smith with one of my friends after being in the photo op line from hell for several hours. He was a doll despite having been taking photos and signing autographs almost literally all day. I thanked him for sticking around for us, and he thanked us for waiting for him and told us to have a lovely evening! On the non-celebrity souvenir side, I got some adorable chibi Avengers and X-Men postcards from one of the artists in Artists' Alley, and have a commission pending with her for a Loki/Lying Cat postcard I'll be sure to share when it comes in. I also picked up a copy of the Nightcrawler miniseries from the 80s as I'm a little obsessed with him right now. Anyway, it was totally worth the trip from Texas, and I'm definitely going to save up to hit some more cons in the future!

I went to the Bristol Comic Expo this year, and Arthur Suydam and James O'Barr were two of the exhibitors this year, and one of my friends, who is an aspiring comic artist was an exhibitor last year. Always a great deal of fun, but a budget needs to be set as well due to the hellacious amount of stuff that one encounters, which is the downside.
