If anyone can make it to Salt Lake City, UT April 17-19 is the 2014 Fan Expo i would highly recommend it. This is following the 2013 Salt Lake City Comic Con that shattered every record for first year comic con attendance records, so what they are doing this year is having 2 events to help the crowd flow. The FanX is more pop culture stuff but there are comic industry people coming, not as big as STAN LEE last year but this year SO FAR is the entire cast of Star Trek The NExt Generation, as well as Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Jon Benthal (i cant remember the actors names but) Carl from the walking dead. David De La Rocca, and Sean Patrick Flannery from Boondock Saints. From the comic world Neal Adams is going to be there too. there are a few others but i cant remember off the top of my head. Here is the website if you want more info.... saltlakecomiccon.com/. There is also going to be another one in September as well.

But that's impressive for a first year con. If I had room in my schedule, I'd definitely consider it.

Was able to get 4 day tickets to SDCC today with pre registration. While I'm not entirely a fan of the fact that going to SDCC now is all up to a lottery system it definitely went much smoother than last year. Anyone else survive these hunger games?

I live in NC so there are a few cons around in the state throughout the year. The best one by far is HeroesCon in Charlotte. It's not a particularly large con in terms of attendee size but the guest list is always full of unbelievably talented artists and writers. The first year I was there, Stan Lee, Mike Mignola, Scott Snyder, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction, and Greg Capullo were there, along with tons of other people. It's not that expensive to attend either, especially if you don't live far away. I'm trying very hard to get Bob Reyer and deadanchoress to come down to it. If anyone is interested, you can check it out here: www.heroesonline.com/heroescon/The sad thing is this year, we can only attend it on Friday because a friend of mine is getting married on Saturday. At least I'm missing out for a great reason. I live in NC as well and did not know about HeroesCon! I'll definitely be there this year!! Ahhh, I am also a NC resident (specifically Winston-Salem), Heroescon is always a super show, Shelton and his crew do a good job, really enjoyed last year as they got more space and it was not as tight. Also, their "group" including Dave Hinson and Rick Fortenberry have smaller local shows in Charlotte, Rock Hill, and Greenville SC. Ultimate Comics in Chapel Hill started one last year in Durham that was pretty good, headlined by Neal Adams and Gail Simone. Couple of smaller shows in Winston, and Greensboro had a new one this year that included Jonathan Hickman.

I will also recommend HeroesCon.
Let me put it this way. I live in Iowa. This will be my third trip this year. Having family in NC makes it a no brainier as well. Also last year they doubled their floor space making it less of a chance for attendees to be running all over one another.

Anyone going to Dallas Comic Con this year? I'm thinking of attending since it's in my backyard, and they have basically the whole Firefly cast as special guests plus Christopher Lloyd, William Shatner and Stan Lee.

Anyone near Philly? There is a really fun little con called Retrocon in Oaks Pa (about 30 or so mins from Philly) that is going to be in it's 3rd year. I've gone to the first two and they are getting much larger and more fun. I would highly suggest going if you can, two days near the end of September this year.

I make it to NYCC every year, but that's the only one. I would love to get to ECCC some day, but since I've got a little guy now, it could be a few years before that happens. Last year was especially fun since I got to spend lots of time with my TC pals and we did a little podcasting right there at the con. I think NYCC is pretty amazing, especially if you cater it to your interests. I always try to get some face time with favorite creators, find some unique artwork and do a few rounds through the main floor for basic people watching and to scope out the game booths. There are also always incredible after parties in NY, so I recommend finding one (or two)! I admit, I'm not a fan of panels, so I don't usually attend them. Can't stand wasting time in lines or sitting in a room for too long, too many people I want to see and talk to. My question is for any of you who have taken a kid to a con, when did you start? I'm wondering when I should attempt it with my little monster. What are some of the challenges you faced and can you offer any tips for having fun with a kid in tow?
