courtneyk - cancer is an [expletive deleted] and it can go [expletive deleted] a goat's [expletive deleted]. Seeing someone you love sick and in pain is as bad if not worse than cancer...suffice it to say, I know how you feel. A moment I am thankful for that sums it all up for me: a few weeks(maybe months) ago one of the podcasts got me lost in this train of thought about how comics have taught me that the right thing to do is always an option, it may have consequences and it may be contrary to what we want, but its always a choice we make. We always have the option to be a hero. So I am thankful for a podcast that hooked me the first time I heard "Meanwhile back at the Hall of Justice". Thankful it got me back into comics, thankful for this community, this safe and pleasant corner of the internet where opinions are expressed and disagreement is civil. Thankful for everyone here for reminding this introvert that there is some value in talking with other people now and then. Thankful that it makes me think about how comics have influenced me, my career, my marriage, my day to day life, and the things I say that make people look at me funny (Beast's "oh my stars and garters" usually is a crowd pleaser, whereas Rorschach's "hurm" garners a curious look when I cannot think of the right thing to say).

I finally got a chance to listen to the podcast, and I wanted to add my words of thanks for the show and this community, which has been so welcoming. I'm also thankful for comics in general and the movies and T.V. spun out from them, through which I've made many friends. This year has been quite difficult. Recently my mom was diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer. My father died in 2007, and the thought of losing her has been really hard to bear. The friends I have made through comics have been a huge part of helping me through it, and for those of you who follow me on Twitter I really appreciate the messages. Even though I haven't been able to post as much, just being able to check in on this forum from the hospital or after helping take care of my mom and take my mind off things for a while has been so helpful, not to mention the private messages and as the support I've gotten from the people at my local comic shop. Comics are more than just stories, they're a community of readers that at its best believes in hope and helping, and I'm so grateful to have that in my life right now. Thank you for being the best of comics. Courtney, I don't want to claim i know what you're going through, cause i don't, each situation is different, but i experienced being in the hospital for a family member last year, for three months every day, and i spend a lot of it checking the TC site, and other comic sites(unfortunately not this forum, cause it didn't existed last year)and it does help take your mind off things. So i am also thankful for that.

Courtney, Even with all the inter-connectivity in the world, oftentimes we can still feel alone, but that is never the case here, as you will always be around friends. Our best wishes to you and your family from our family of friends, Bob
