This run has been incredible, safe to say most agree. And it just keeps getting better. But this is the first time in this run I have had an unhappy feeling in my gut that Snyder and Capullo don't have long left on this. I don't know what it is. And on the one hand it would almost be a good thing; quit while you're ahead British 'The Office' style and don't outstay your welcome American 'The Office' style (why I'm comparing Batman to the Office I don't know).
But who could follow this? In all honesty though who? In terms of art and writing, there's no team I could choose. Unless they got Frank Miller and Klaus Janson, but its not like his writing and art is as it use to be. Alan Moore is off being a wizard and all-round Negative Nancy. Jeph Loeb is at Marvel. Paul Dini is at Marvel. Jim Lee can't keep up with dates. Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka had their turns, don't work for DC anymore and have nothing good to say about DC.
The one person I would absolutely love to see write Batman is Bendis. He's the only Marvel writer I'm still reading and will continue to read no matter what. His books always go in unexpected directions and I absolutely love his characters. I read his books for the characters more than the story. And he would say that he's already told his Batman stories with Powers and Daredevil and so on. But Bendis and maybe Alex Maleev on Batman would probably be the only team I would most love to see on Batman. That would be my dream team.
Realistically though, I think they'll either get some new up-and-comer so there isn't really anything to hold them up against. I can't think of anyone at DC at the moment who both can do it schedule-wise, or has the desire to. Scott Snyder speaks about Batman with such love and passion, I personally feel a lot of the other writers at DC care more about creator owned and treat DC as a job. Snyder always talks about how he treats his job at DC as if this arc will be the one where he gets fired, so he puts everything into it. They need somebody with tha attitude again.
Or hey, he could just stay on it forever and ever and we can love him forever and ever the end.
