I am much more excited for Captain Marvel than I am for Wonder Woman. Possibly because, as was mentioned in the episode, I'm familiar with Marvel's style and I can imagine how it will look and feel. And I'm actually okay with them doing Carol rather than a Black Widow film because that way Black Widow won't be the 'token girl hero'. Now we have a better chance at least two female leads in the following ensemble films.
When the news came out I had a conversation with someone who didn't realise that Captain Marvel was a female hero and was confused by the fact that she was 'captain' and not 'Ms'. I couldn't really blame him as all he knows of comic books is from films and games so he represents the general public in that sense but it really brought home how exciting this announcement was and how important it is to get right. The potential that it has to bring in a new generation of readers and maybe bring some lady-hero merchandise into toy stores (A walk down the superhero aisles at toy stores now are distinctly lacking in any Black Widow or Gamora).

re: the movie announcements and all accompanying discussion:
+1 on everything Stephanie said. She represented/mirrored my own POV perfectly in every way.

I'm not really a fan of the Marvel movies. I enjoyed the first Iron Man and Captain America 2 but other than that I was underwhelmed. I'm much more interested in seeing what DC can do with their movie universe.

That's literally the first time I've read/heard that opinion.

I voted for Thor: Ragnarok. I'm not even going to pretend it's not for Loki reasons.

That's literally the first time I've read/heard that opinion. This site leans towards Marvel, and there's nothing wrong with that. Their movies make tons of money and are well done. It's just not my cup of tea, although I can appreciate what they've done with their movie universe. I'm hoping DC pulls it off too. More great comic book movies means we all win.
