When in doubt always add the words "comic book" when doing a search such as this at work lol. Guys, Whilst you're not Googling "spread", do not, for the love of Cthulhu, I repeat, DO NOT search for Google images for "krokodil"! I didn't trust Kelly Sue DeConnick when she told us not to, and now I can't get the images out of my head! I fully realize that many of you are now doing what Ms. DeConnick and myself are saying not to do, so I'll just wait here... I I I I I I I I I V WE WARNED YOU, BUT YOU DID YOU LISTEN TO US...

Civil War was Heathers first comic series. And she read it so well and asked me questions about who was who and used the internet to fill in any gaps. She jumped onto Bendis' s new avengers and has fell in love with Brian Reeds Ms Marvel. Indy books have become her main focus with bouncing back to Marvel here and there. I find myself in the same boat. When the crossovers become too much we just stop reading them... But... we will never stop reading. Oh I have to thank you and please thank Bobby Steve and Steph for us. All of your recommendations for books to check out have greatly helped us when picking out a new book to enjoy next. Thanks again Brad Heather Tyler and Sophie. Brad, I hope Heather has been reading Kelly Sue DeConnick's Captain Marvel! Both her original 17 issue run and this new one are among my favorite comics of all time, and since that covers everything nearly back to the K/T Boundary...

I have actually strayed away from the Batverse (with the exception of Greg Capullo's work) because the tone was so dark and the books seemed like if you were reading one, you were reading them all. I am super-excited about the new direction that Batgirl is now presenting. I hope it will open a door to the Batverse for my kids (my oldest being age 13). Because of your great discussions on air, I picked up Life After and Spread. Both were interesting. Thanks for your wonderful program. I've only been listening for the past two weeks, but I love what I'm hearing! Drew, Thanks for the kind words...and wait until we have the whole band together, because Stephanie could be back this week! That you even have the chance to be able to show a Bat-book to your daughter is why this is such a huge step forward for DC, and why I'm going to be beating the drum to get folks to support it with their shekels!

I've been asked a lot about comics and my recommendations recently and that made me want to write a post on my blog for new/perspective comic book fans because it can be really daunting especially for women. Some of my tips include: follow creators not characters, be open to try new genres, reach out to local LCS's and ask questions. I was just wondering what tips you guys might have for getting immersed into the wonderful world of comics Nikki, First off, they should all listen to Talking Comics! Seriously, all your points are well-taken and the ones that I would espouse; additionally, I would advise trying not to get locked into any one "family of books" ( Batman, X- Men, etc) before sampling a broader range, not to frequent any store that won't provide the help you need (or makes you feel as an "outsider"), and that libraries can be a great resource, with many of them stocking single issues now, as well as trades and graphic novels! Please, when your entry is up, can you post a link? I'd love to see it!

You're welcome Bob. The concept of Cecilia was interesting. She helped the X-Men but had no desire to be a superhero. She just wanted to keep being a doctor. Bobby, I just vapor-locked; and considering how much I loved the character of Stevie, it shows that I've lost something off the ol' fastball!

Do you have any feelings about what's happening to Archie over in Life with Archie? Simon, NO SPOILERS HERE!! My first feeling was disgust...not about the book, its characters or the story, but for the speculators crawling out of the woodwork to glom copies of this issue! It happened in all three stores that I frequent! Of course, none of them understood (and if I'm wrong, someone correct me!) that the story in question is about a grown-up Archie Andrews, an "alternate-reality" if you will, but if they want to waste their money... I read through it in the store, and it was well done, but knowing it wasn't "our" Archie takes some of the poignancy out of it.

Hey guys big fan of the show. Names Brad Pinder and my wife 2 kids and myself reside in Hamilton Ontario Canada. I got my first comic when I was 8... 30 plus years ago. Remember Robotix the toy? Ya it was great. I still remember some pannels. I've been kinda hooked since. Im currently reaingi indies as I'm suffering crossover and event burn out. And the big 2 is saturated. My wife is in the same boat. You will normally hear us chatting about books or having a spirited debate over who was right Cap or Ironman during Civil War. It was Tony by the way. At any rate. I'm never gonna stop reading them. And I'm going to listen to your show as long as you make it. Great chatting at you. Brad, Heather, Tyler and Sophie. Brad, My apologies for being late to respond...and to Heather, Tyler, and Sophie, too! That cross-over/event burn-out can be hard to overcome unless, as you guys did, take positive steps to buy and read what you're enjoying! (If Heather thinks that Cap was right, I agree with her...and Reed Richards, at least back during the Walt Simonson run where he and Sue argued eloquently against registration!)

Hey guys, it was mentioned in today's podcast about an interview with Joanna Estep at New York Comicon - which podcast would contain that interview? I am interested in listening to her talk about her illustrating process. Thanks! Drew, If Steve is correct, (and I believe that he is!), then I think that the only place that interview can be is as part of this episode ( Issue #103: NYCC Interviews ), even though the blurb doesn't mention it! (if it isn't there, my sincerest apologies!)

Hey Bob, I was listening to today's podcast and realizedyou mistook Cecilia Reyes for Stevie Hunter who was kitty's dance teacher. Cecilia is a mutant doctor with a forcefield who came on in the 90's during Operation Zero tolerance. Wylie, You're 100% correct! Thanks for setting the record straight!
(Those darned 90s!!)

I just found this video (well, audio mostly, except for some stills) clip in order to send it off to an unbelieving friend, but here's the wicked Wilson Pickett doing what some consider the definitive "Hey Jude" (Check out the guitar work by Duane Allman, and the cool back-and-forth with Pickett, particularly from the 2:40 mark on!)

I was about to try looking up where to start with Jack Kirby's New Gods and then I realised who needs Google for such things. Where would you recommend starting with New Gods? Either Jack Kirby's run or any other series' afterwards. I just re-read Cosmic Odyssey and over on the Marvel side Rebirth of Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet recently and am feeling cosmic. Benjamin, Bobby ( aka Wylie) has it spot on with recommending the "Jack Kirby's New Gods", collected in this trade : For me personally, I was never as big a fan of those stories as you would think I would be; I appreciate the imagination and scope of the project, but I never took the characters to heart the way I did with Kirby's other works.

I'm not reading the current run of Fantastic Four but I picked up the Fantastic Four 100th Anniversary Special after hearing Bob's recommendation. I really enjoyed this book. I thought it did an excellent job capturing the essence of the Fantastic Four - that they are a family first, who happen to explore the cosmos and save the world along the way. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this story goes in GotG Anniverary Special. So, thanks, Bob. That was an awesome recommendation. Mo, I'm so glad that you enjoyed that issue! I'm always a mite worried when I go out on a limb with something like that one, but as you read, Jen Van Meter and Joanna Estep did a "fantastic" job telling that story!
