Solo flick confirmed obviously.
So far the new 52 origin seems to be the way its going. Lots of mixed thoughts on this.
WB looking for a female director for the film.
Latest rumour is that it will be a period film, set at the start of the 1900's, maybe around the WWI or II years.
Exciting times for this character. First female superhero movie, and rightfully WW's.
I see only 2 problems with this, not personally, but just by judging from everyones thoughts so far:
1. The people who don't like Zack Snyder - he isn't directing the solo movie, but he will be introducing her first in BvS. This introduction will be met with lots of scrutiny. But I think it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, because if she is only being introduced, it isn't a full story. So no doubt she will be kicking ass alot and not much else. That makes sense. But an awkward position for the character to be in as the solo movie could very well be everything we hope and dream for.
2. New 52 origin - I personally (and I know a few on here) really enjoyed this origin. I've only just started reading this run since this origin was confirmed for the cinematic universe and wanted a basis for argument, but I loved it. I can see how those who love the original origin would be insulted by it, but I personally think it adds great drama to the character. That being said, the rumours about the time period setting do seem to also hint at the "Man comes to Paradise Island, Wonder Woman comes to man's world" story so it looks like a combination of both origins and would be interesting to see how they pan out. A live action version of the animated movie would be perfect, with Ares as the villain, would be amazing. But Ares as a villain and no Greek God ties kind of feels pointless, so that aspect of the New 52 would benefit that story. That being said, in the panel featuring Greg Rucka and other names I've just forgotten, the animated movie doesn't seem to sit well with them. Which if I remember right, came as a surprise to Bob and Steve. So the perception of Wonder Woman and how she is portrayed seems to vary greatly from person to person. I'm in the boat of loving that movie.
A lot of people that I know love the New 52 series have said the exact same thing: they want to love the character, but never read anything that grabbed them. This series did that for them. Which is a good thing.
Batman went from gun-toting-vigilante that threw people out of windows, to a swinging 60's buffoon to a dark and brooding angry guy. But all these changes have been welcomed. From what I've read of the New 52 series so far (4 volumes in so far) Wonder Woman, while having a different origin and being a lot more action heavy, has opened a lot more people to the character, and she has had some inspiring moments , "I Am Wonder Woman" gave me chills, as well as the moment with Hades about how she loves everyone".
Her books have never sold particularly well. Now she's on the big screen. A whole new generation is being introduced to her. A female character that kicks as much ass as Batman and Superman for the genral public to enjoy is a good thing. I think it's just how much of an open mind we go into it. I'll say one thing, as much as I am interested to read Grant Morrison's take, I think the sexual version of the character he wants to write would not be a good way to go for a movie and it's good they aren't.
Then again, I'm saying all this crap based pretty much on, well everything I've just said. And I'm always hopeful.
Anyone else as hopeful?
