Bob, Again, a great job tonight discussing the evolution of the female hero in comics! As always, you are informative and entertaining. And no technology mishaps! It was great to put the face to the voice, as it was with Bobby, Steve, and Joey, who were all sitting right behind me. I hope to run into you again at Fourth World, NYCC, or somewhere else. Scott Honig Scott, It was great meeting you, too, and I'm glad that you enjoyed my little ramblings! NYCC is right around the corner, so I'll hope to see you there!

Friends,
Some while back, I was asked by a Forum-ite about some recommended reading for Dr. Strange, so with the film out today, I thought it apt to re-visit that list:
Strange Tales #130 -#146 "The Eternity Saga" is a heck of a place to start, with the introduction of that cosmic character, and I would also recommend, in no particular order (and I hope I'm close with the issue numbers!)
Strange Tales #148-#156 "Umar Strikes!" This might go back a couple of issues further into the "Eternity" arc, but you get some great Dormammu stuff, the introduction of his sister Umar, the origin of The Ancient One, and of course, Clea, and all written by Stan and Roy Thomas, with art by Steve Ditko, Bill Everett and Marie Severin.
Marvel Premiere #11-#14 "Siseneg" Steve Englehart and Frank Brunner bring you the creation of the Universe--'Nuff Said!
Doctor Strange #1-#5 "Silver Dagger" More Englehart/Brunner greatness! (buy all the Englehart/Brunner---trust me! It's MP #9--14, DS #1--#5.)
Dr. Strange: The Oath #1--#5 Brian K. Vaughn & Marcos Martin give us a story that weaves elements of Dr. Strange's origin into a new tale that features a star turn by Christine Palmer, the original Night Nurse!
Strange #1-#4 Mark Waid and Emma Rios tell a tale of the older Stephen Strange and a new apprentice.
Marvel Feature #1-#3; The Defenders #1-#5 Roy Thomas created the team of Dr. Strange, Namor and the Hulk, but Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema took it to another level. (Defenders #4 has the return of The Valkyrie, too!)
Hope this helps!

Friends,
Last evening, with great anticipation after many delays that were beyond the control of the film-makers, I was thrilled to be able to pop a DVD into my player and watch Marty Langford's "Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four". We've twice had Marty on the show discussing both his documentary and the famous "lost" Corman FF movie, so for all of you who were intrigued, his film is now available through Amazon!
Here's the trailer:

Dearest Forum Friends,
Although it's been a very quiet year around these parts (even if it's been a turbulent one both in general and for Talking Comics in particular!), that doesn't mean that this community has been anything but the welcoming place that it has been in the past. In fact, based on our correspondence, internet contact, or personal interactions with you wonderful folks out there in "radio-land", I'd say that we are more inclusionary than ever before, the fact of which I'm most proud.
To all of you, no matter which "event" you celebrate (even if it's Marvel's "Civil War II" I guess!), you have all our best wishes for a glorious holiday season!

Hi Bob,
I don't know when or if you'll be taking nominations for the Hall of Fame, but I wanted to shout out to Gail Simone's first run of Birds of Prey. I'd be disappointed if this did not at some point make the list.
Thanks! Kara

I'd be disappointed if this did not at some point make the list. Thanks! Kara Kara, We are still sort-of sorting the mechanics of how we're going to approach the mechanics of our new Hall of Fame, but you must know that I love your suggestion! For right now, we're going to open with a small selection of books whose iconic runs occurred during our show's history, and we'll also have some "All-Timers", with the initial selections focusing on the Golden and Silver Ages to create an august collection of the most important books in comics history...or at least that's the plan. (You've already heard of our "First Class", and they are that in every sense of the phrase!) Each year, we'll be adding books to the Hall, and modern titles will be part of that as well, so Ms. Simone's BoP would make a fine addition! Happy New Year!

IT'S MISFIT APPRECIATION DAY!!!Take the time to read some of the great tales that Gail Simone told using Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe, the "fan-girl" who becomes a hero in her own right, proving herself a more-than-worthy "Bird of Prey" for Barbara and the crew on numerous occasions!

New stuff on the podcast tomorrow! Although you've already heard, I think it proper to point out that our first "guest co-host" will be taking a seat for tomorrow's recording! Long-time TC contributor and friend Melissa Megan, host of the Sirens of Scream podcast and co-host of the Top Shelf Book Club will be joining us for the next episode, and I couldn't be happier!! I know that we'll be having a great conversation...one for the ages...trust me on this! In that "rotating seat" over the next few weeks, we're blessed to have with us some fabulous TC contributors, a "Comic Book Valkyrie", and perhaps some creators, to boot, so please let us know what you think of this new addition to our show!

Hey Bob have ypu ever read Five Ghosts from Image Comics. It's written by Frank Barbiere who wrote the Doctor Strange annual from Avengers a while back that was enjoyed on the show.
It's a very pulp style story followed an Indiana Jones type character named Fabian Grey. The twist is that he can call on the ghosts of five famous literary characters to gain their skills.
The creative team took a break after 17 issues and an annual but recently teased it's return. If you get a chance I recommend the first Image trade since I think it would be up your alley.

Bobby, I certainly read the first trade some while back, as it was in the discussion for "Best New Series" for its debut year. I remember enjoying it, but as with so many other things, it drifted from my radar screen...old age, I guess! I'll have to search out some newer issues--thanks!
