Ok so I'm sort of playing catch up with some books that came out while I was away on business. I just read avengers 35 and 36 and I have to say its among the worst comics I've read in a very long time. I really like Hickman sometimes, but I feel that the avengers are just too big of a sandbox for him. I read 48 pages of comic mad have no idea what the shit is happening. I've been wanting to say this for quite awhile now... I DONT KNOW WHO STARBRAND AND NIGHTMASK ARE AND I DONT GODDAMN WANT TO KNOW. I am happily dropping this book, maybe when time runs out I'll get MY avengers back.
especially with my recent experiences reading silver age comics, I really find these massively long form stories with virtually no payoff to be unbearable. If hickman's story were told in 1967 the current two year run would have taken three issues. I'm not entirely against any long form story but there needs to be more familiar characters involved, and we need to get some kind of payoff sometimes. This feels like self-indulgent writing and I want no part of it.
ill stick on new avengers for a bit, but if it starts going the same way I'm out.

I agree whole heartedly. I long for the days of Cap, Wasp, Thor and Iron Man saving the world from threats. (my favorite lineup). These long winding, hundred member Avengers stories are just not too my liking. Unfortunately we still have until next summer to deal with it.

I can totally understand the negative reactions but I'm really digging the Hickman stuff. I admire the guy for going ultra-high concept but I've read more than a few issues where I've had to laugh out loud and wonder who would be able to jump on to these books - especially with Avengers Assemble gone - with little to no explanation as to what is going on.
Reading Avengers and New Avengers at the same time gives a clearer picture. I like that Marvel are allowing this kind of story to go on alongside some more accessible titles.

I've been playing catch up and just finished the Original Sin & Great Society arcs of Avegners & New A. Personally I think it's been fantastic, especially New Avengers. I'm fascinated with the Black Panther/Namor dynamic and look forward to how Hickman concludes it. Hickman does pretty big concept stuff and definitely nailed the landing on both Secret Warriors and FF so I'm sure whatever Secret Wars turns out to be that it'll be very epic.

I'm liking what Hickman is doing and even better while reading both Avengers and New Avengers. I actually like that new characters are incorporated in these kind of books as they would most likely not make it on their own solos books (there are exceptions of course like Ms. Marvel). I can't wait to see how all ends in 6 months?..

He spent an entire arc explaining who Nightmask and Starbrand were.

Once Hickman's run is completed and can be read in its entirety I feel confident in saying it'll be ranked in the top 5 of Avengers runs of all time.

The last couple of weeks i have read a lot of Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers up on Marvel Unlimited, i just finished reading up till Infinity.
Avengers is so-so for me, art is usually good, but i'm not a big fan of the story, and the newer characters(Starbrand, Nightmask, Ex Nihilo, and the Builders)don't do anything for me.
But i love New Avengers! I'm fascinated by the Illuminati and the relationships between one another, and seeing how far they are willing to go to save their universe.Such a good story, and one that i'll definitely want to keep reading!

Yeah, New Avengers is the better read, BUT Avengers has now gotten better thanks to the whole 8 months later and the fallout of everyone learning about what Tony and Co. were doing.

Very interesting issue! Also I had to re-read it more than once since in typical Hickman fashion is full of information that half goes over my head on the first read.

I've been loving Time Runs Out. Avengers #37 is actually a decent-enough jumping on point for anyone who stopped at Infinity. It sets up the players and what they're trying to accomplish.
NA #27 was great! Didn't see that coming, though I should've.

Make sure you jump back on Avengers World in February with #17. The series will be covering what took place between the original Avengers/New Avengers timeline and the future timeline we are going through currently. It'll be filling the gap and giving more context to how things came to be in the main two series.

I think Avengers World has been a good title. I really like how they've been using the characters that so many complained about not being developed enough. Giant Shang-Chi was awesome.

I'm suffering from Avenger fatigue...I'll catch up later. Hickman tells an epic story but he is dragging this out...I'm looking forward to reading this from start to finish, but month to month gives me tired head...
