So i'm currently reading some Hellboy stuff and since there wasn't a thread for it i thought lets make one.
Do any of you guys read Hellboy or any of the other Mignola series? (BPRD, Abe Sapien). And if so what do you think of it?
I just started so i haven't read a whole lot,so far i've only read Seed of Destruction, Wake the Devil and BPRD Vampire(heard about it in the podcast).
I really like the characters, the story, and the art(especially the ones drawn by Mignola himself).

I'm reading through Hellboy myself and I find it fantastic. I never read much Mignola until I picked up Baltimore. So the Hellboy world became more appealing as it seemed to be in the same vein, and honestly its even better. I Started out collecting those BPRD hard covers Plague of Frogs, they where great but there was a lot of story missing, then getting the new Abe Sapien on going, at the moment I'm up to Volume 8 of Hellboy, and need to pick up the final four. I've also picked up the Hellboy in Hell comic but I'm putting of reading it till I catch up on the trades. I still have Abe vol 1 & 2 and BPRD Hell on Earth 1-3 and 1946,7,8 to read too I'm really right in the middle I guess. But the imagery is fantastic, the use of folklore and historical reference is woven so well into the stories. Mignola can really do no wrong for me it seems, all of the Hellboy universe books are strong. I hope to back track and read the Witchfinder series and some Lobster Johnson as it all ties together. I picked up the latest issue of Sledgehammer 44 to find the black flame from BPRD and Hellboy its pretty fantastic how intricate all the pieces of the stories are. Mignola and his team are pros of the highest order.

I also really want to read Hellboy Midnight Circus(also heard about that one on the podcast). Only think its a little pricey right now, so i'm gonna wait with it until its a bit cheaper.

Huge fan of the Hellboy world. I have all Hellboy trades and previously mentioned BPRD Plague Of Frogs hardcovers. Mignola's art would work without dialogue or story but the world he created is so rich.
Waiting on the Hellboy In Hell trade as I started collecting in the middle of the run and the back issues are pretty pricey.

I love hellboy, bprd and Abe Sapien quite a bit. I would say that at first bprd was a great side story to read alongside hellboy but over time I believe that I enjoy the bprd stories have evolved into a very dense, fantastic story that really stands on it's own. I'm just a little bit behind now, but I really look forward to getting back into the swing of things and getting drawn back in.
Also, Baltimore is also a highly recommended read if you like hellboy.

Read a lot of Hellboy stories for the last couple of days, and i'm starting to like it more and more. Last one i've read was Conquerer Worm and now i'm gonna start with Strange Places.Almost read all the books that have Mignola on art, that's a bummer but i'm sure the other artists are good too.
I really like the stories and all the different creatures that Hellboy and the BPRD must face, most of them are really strange and weird but i love that about this world. Also like that one time there's a multiple issue story arc and the next time its multiple short stories in one issue.Best short story so far in my opinion is the two-page story Pancakes starring young Hellboy.

I just recently got into the Hellboy universe. It started with BPRD Vampire, which I bought initially for Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon's art. But I enjoyed the story and characters so much that I'm now in the rabbit hole of reading through other titles in the universe. It's a little overwhelming at first, but great to know that there are so many good stories to read.

I thought about picking this up on Wednesday, but like you said, it isn't cheap. 56 pages, albeit in a nice hardcover (which I don't care one bit about whether something is hard or soft cover) for $14.99. That's too much. I'm going to get it on instocktrades.com. It's only like $8 on there.

Can someone recommend which version of the trades to get. I have never read HB, but I hear only good things. I'd like to casually collect a volume every few months.

Hardcovers obviously stand the test of time better, dark covers on trades show wear pretty easily - that said most fit a bag and board pretty well... I'm a hardcover fan myself but some of them can get a bit on the large size, trades are petty uniform and generally better value price wise. I tend to pick up trades for series I haven't read or if there isn't a hardcover version I can get. The hardcovers I do get are released solely in that format or I have the issues and want the hardcovers for my collection. I would recommend favorite series in hardcover, series that interest you in trades. Really you want to check the availability of the trades/hardcovers in the run you want - nothing worse then a volume or two being sold out everywhere; or weigh up the price vs the content and the contents significance to you.

I bought the first two trades (Seed of Destruction, Wake the Devil) at a shop and the rest of it i buy on the Dark Horse app, which i think is not as good as Comixology but its close.
Would love to have some beautiful Hardcovers some day though.

The 12 volumes are numbered and even the paperback versions are great looking. There are a few collections and curiosities like Masks & Monsters, which collects the crossovers with Starman, Ghost, and Batman; and Weird Tales (which I believe has the Midnight Circus in it as well). The paperbacks are cheap too which will help if you're just getting in to the Hellboy universe. Down the line, once you're hooked there is a sweet oversized hardback collection which collects two or three trades each volume.

Weird Tales does NOT have the Midnight Circus in it. Just checked. It does have a story called Big-Top Hellboy though featuring a circus.

I think someone already mentioned this in the Buys and Deals thread, but thought it'd be worth mentioning here that dark horse digital has a $0.99 sale on Abe Sapien and Lobster Johnson issues.
