This was incredibly difficult, but here goes:
1. Peter Parker: I got hardcore into American comics by reading CD-ROMs full of pdfs of all of the Amazing Spider-Man, starting with the 60s. Pete is sort of my go-to comic character.
2. Francine and Katchoo from Strangers in Paradise: I'm cheating a little, but these two characters are a unit. They just don't work without each other.
3. Kyoya Ootori from Ouran Host Club: So much glasses. Also, I think he has one of the best storylines. He's the third son, so he knows he's not going to inherit his family company, but he wants it so much... but then he lets Tamaki get in and help him become a more complete person.
4. Raphael from TMNT: The moody loner, always impatient, making mistakes, but quick to show his emotions. The 1990 film, the 2003 series, and what comics I've read do a fantastic job of making him a really engaging character. The less said about the Michael Bay film, the better.
5. Kamala Khan: We've only gotten 8 issues of her, but I'm putting her on the list anyway. Partly because she's a fanfic writer, and she told Wolverine that she'd written a Wolverine/Storm fic, and that's aces.
Honorable mention: Clark Kent is one of my favorite characters, but I actually haven't read him very much in comic form. And I only like a specific type of Clark Kent/Superman. I like him at his most "human." I know he's not human, but I don't like the whole, "I'm an alien I don't understand hu-mon culture." I was most affected by the Clark of the Christopher Reeve films and the Dean Cain TV series. In the pilot of the series, when Lois walks in on him in a towel, and then looks at his pantry to see it stocked in nothing but junk food... that's when I love Clark the best.
