Mmm, can't say i loved it, but i didn't hate it either.
The writing isn't bad and i am curious to see where its going, but i felt like i read this kind of story many times before, but its only the first issue so maybe that changes in time. The art is hit or miss for me, some pages are beautiful while some pages look a bit hastily drawn. But i did like most of the characters(I Am Strix I Kil Peepel), and i can see myself maybe loving some of them in the future.
It wasn't bad, and i will definitely pick up the next issue, but so far it isn't anything special, in my opinion.

I thought it was ok, I really liked the art in the main, although I do agree some pages looked rushed. Will pick up the next couple of issues to see where it goes.

I've noticed a few people on this forum share the same thoughts as me: I love Gail Simone the person and LOVELOVELOVE her Twitter. She's hilarious. But I have struggled to like any of her comics. I don't think they're bad, just really... I don't know. Can't explain it. I loved Villains United though. And her Secret Six and Birds of Prey series are still frustratingly out of print.
But I loved this. Really loved it. Can't wait for more. Only complaint is that I really wish Rag Doll was in it.

I wasn't a fan of her Batgirl stuff, or the Wonderwoman story she did for Sensation but loved the Movement. I did enjoy Secret Six more on a second read, but I think could have done with more of an introduction to the characters. I imagine that will come over the next couple of issues though.

Am I the only one that felt like this was a PG-13 Superhero Comic version of the movie Saw lol?

really enjoyed this book. so glad gail simone is back on secret six. i love the team -- catman is one of my favorite dc characters -- and i really like the rest of the characters that are rounding out the other slots even though i'll miss some members from the last run.
unfortunately i'm not fond of the art. first few pages are fine and kind of interesting looking but after that it gets kind of hard to follow and sometimes looks rushed even though this book was put together some time ago. the writing is top notch though so i'm all in for this one and i'm glad dc is letting secret six have their own book again.

I've gotta say, after one issue, I'm not a fan. There wasn't enough of a set up to really grab me. I don't really care what the Secret is. And I'll echo what others have said about the art- what started out as interesting seemed rushed and kind of sloppy by the end. I don't think I'll be picking up another issue.

what really gets my goat is when people do not give a book the time to grow, but stop at issue #1. look at The Movement, great book, lots of whining and running off before readers could actually see how it was building and developing into one of the best books on the market.
I say always give a book an arc or do not bother to start!!!
I personally enjoyed the issue for what is was, great introduction to characters. and next issue we are set for the story to go ahead full throttle.

Hey man, not everyone has that $15 or $20 to devote to a book they might not actually like. If a #1 doesn't grab me, why exactly would I go back for a #2? "Oh, I didn't like this thing, let me read more of it. And pay for the privilege." The same thing happened to me with the new Batgirl stuff. I bought 35 and 36, could not stand the new direction, and so now I'm done. No point in wasting the money buying them and the time reading them. We're all allowed to read and enjoy things differently. Don't let your goat get got!

Okay, going back to the pre-52 Secret Six run I had some questions. Because it has recently been collected again. As I've said on this forum before, Gail Simone is a weird one for me. As a personality I love her. But I have tried reading her books again and again and just do not like her writing. Actually I take that back, its not that I dont like it, it just doesn't grab me. She does great character moments but I always find the story super generic and not enough to get me through to the end. And when I say I've tried reading her books I mean everything: Wonder Woman, Batgirl, The Movement, All-New Atom, Red Sonja and recently the new Secret Six. All books that I started reading and just found a chore to get through.
But Secret Six is a book I've always wanted to read and looks a lot more like a Suicide Squad book than any we've gotten since Ostrander. I love Deadshot and Bane and wish they got more spotlight which apparently they do in this book.
So I'm curious, is this book standard Simone? Curious to hear from both fans and those who aren't super fans who have read this run, because the best reviews I can find are all people who absolutely love her. Looking for more of an objective opinion on this title alone.

Henry, What I'm going to say here is going to sound very bizarre, but it might end up helping you make a decision, simply because it's so backwards! As you know, I'm a big fan of Ms. Simone's work, particularly those titles that aren't getting to that next level for you; that said, Secret Six is a book that I just can't take to heart in the way I do her other series. That's odd, in that Secret Six might be the book that is written most like something that you'd expect someone with the public persona of Gail Simone to write, that is, it's the most "Gail Simone" of anything I've read, but it's just not in my wheelhouse. As convoluted as that last paragraph was, perhaps it helped?

Makes total sense and it would have convinced me to buy it.... had I read it before going on my lunch break just now and buying it anyway because I saw it and thought "What the hell". So win win. And our tastes differ on particular books so hopefully for my sake that is the case this time. And being even more hopeful, there are times where I just "don't get" a writer until I read something of theirs that blows me away and then completely changes my mind on all their other work eg; I did not like Grant Morrison's Batman and JLA work until I read Doom Patrol and now I love them like crazy. So maybe Secret Six will be my Gail Simone gateway drug.

I guess you have also got accept that you might like a writer no matter what, or that you may prefer some things they have done over others. For me gail's 'the movement' was a brilliant piece of writing with characters i actually loved to read about, however her 'All new Atom' bombed in my eyes. other writers like this are Ann Nocenti and Scott Lobdell for me.. i guess you have to just accept and enjoy what you can.

I dropped ssecret six, it's just not for me. The art is cool but it screams indie book. I prefer suicide squad. I'm all over Gail simones new swords of sorrow dynamite mini series, it's got me obsessed at the moment.

I really liked the Pre 52 Secret Six, though it has its flaws. What i'm wondering is where the hell is the next issue of the new run?Its been months since there was a new issue, maybe its because of Convergence or something.
