Is there really no thread for this, yet? For shame, fellow talkers of comicsdom! Allow me to rectify.
When the #1 came out, I flipped through it, and I drooled over what I saw, but I was absolutely resolute to then try and forget about it for the better part of a year 'till the trade came (such is the fallout from my feelings and philosophies in regards to $4 books, especially ongoings, which this appears to be?, and especially ESPECIALLY those from Marvel or DC). So I waited.
And I waited.
And I . . caved, of course, roughly a week later, because this book, man, this book is just too damn overflowing with awesome to ignore for the sort of time it'll take Marvel to get their shit together on a trade (which will, naturally, be way overpriced anyways, because: Marvel Comics). I'M ONLY HUMAN, DAMMIT.
It'd be easy for me to say something like, "The last page hooked me," but that'd be disingenuous, and it'd most certainly be unfair to Mr Skottie Young. The truth is that every page hooked me, and even that's not quite right. Every nook and cranny, every guffaw, every square inch of hyper-colorful (in more way than one), gloriously kinetic, just-the-right-amount-of-meta panel space in that comic hooked me. Just such brilliant, brilliant stuff, I couldn't possibly resist.
The second issue, which took me a couple of extra weeks to procure as my shop's initial shipment of it was horribly damaged and I refused to get it from another shop on principal (that's called shop loyalty right there, ladies and gents, behold its majesty), is no less worthy of adulation and praise. Laughs from page one to page finale, no idea where it's going (in the best sort of way), wonderful pace and color to it, fun little "montage" in the middle, ridiculous pop-culture references throughout (all my True Detective fans in the house say yee-ah) . . the perfect #1 followed up by a perfect #2. Laughs, laughs, and more laughs; smile on my face the whole time it's in my lap. Couldn't possibly ask for more. And (triple word score!), because I waited for my shop's replacement shipment, it's only a one-week wait 'till issue three! So I got that goin' for me . . which is nice.
Right, so . . thoughts, ramblings, ravings? I know i'm not near the only person 'round here loving this book. How long a run do you guys think we'll get, here? A couple of arcs? More? It's certainly selling well; do you think Skottie Young can keep it going? Is this just about the most hilariously-delightful book going right now? Will Rocky ever find Gideon's Bible? Let's chat it out.
