Curious if anybody else here has read/gazed upon the beauty of this (especially Stephanie eg; Crime noir detective cat)
These books have to be the most beautiful in terms of artwork I have ever seen. There's a page I won't forget where it's simply the characters standing in the street under a tree and the sun has cast a shadow of every leaf in the tree. So much detail.
Also wondering if there are any other European published books out there (with an English translation of course) worth checking out. It seems any I pick up is guaranteed to be amazing - Blacksad, XIII, The Killer, Thorgal.

The artwork on Blacksad is absolutely stunning - I have recommended it on occasion, but I'm a bit hesitant because the translation is a bit stilted at times so it doesn't read as well in English as it should. Thorgal is one I would have picked out too, a great read.

I've bought both volumes of Blacksad digitally from Dark Horse and have been just blown away by the art. The level of detail is pretty impressive, and all the shadows and smokey blue tones really capture a nice noir vibe.
There's a lot of awesome stuff out there that I want to read, but "The Incal" by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius has been a stellar read. It's a pretty crazy but visually amazing sci-fi dystopia. If you liked the documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune," definitely check out "The Incal."

I have been wanting to read the Incal for SO long, but all you can get is those $100+ hardcovers and even those are hard to find. I'll have to check if its available digitally.

I wish I knew French but, alas, I don't. That said, the translated versions are still really good, and Dark Horse always gives you a hefty, quality package.

I absolutely love Blacksad. Amazing art, fantastic stories, great characterizations.
The newest translated volume - Amarillo - comes out next month & I am really looking forward to seeing Blacksad going crosscountry.

"The Incal", along with loads of other Euro comics, is available digitally at www.humanoids.com/ . They also have a pretty nice policy of putting up whole issues to read for free online. The Incal isn't covered by that at the moment, but "El Nino" #1 (of 7) is available to read for free all of this month and is a really top notch adventure comic. In fact, I think I should probably cross-post this to the digital comics forum!

Amarillo arrived for me yesterday and I ripped through it. Another cool Blacksad story. Not really a noir, this time, but definitely a caper. Like "A Silent Hell" the story felt a little slighter than those in the first collection (maybe it was because the three stories read as 1?) and I wish the creative team took a little more time with the story to delve into the characters & locations that we rapidly met and then passed on from. Nevertheless, a good read in one of the most original series out there.

It was colored lighter and felt breezier. I do think there was a rather dark undertone to it, especially the ending for several of the characters.
All in all, a good story, though.
