Anyone one else read all new marvel now #1? I thought it was all good apart from the silver surfer stuff. Thoughts? Also gonna get strange attractors as it sounds really good.

Loads of awesome books this week, Sex Criminals #4 once again had me crying with laughter (the F*** tales video cover creased me up), The Movement #8 was excellent, my patriotic buy of the week was Revolutionary War, I was expecting it to be like that Age of Ultron uk tie in that was so bad it was good (your going home in a a robot ambulance, a particular highlight), but much to my surprise I loved the book unironically. Manifest Destiny was outstanding once again and my favourite book of the week. After 3 lacklustre issues Hinterkind really picked up and was a good issue. Arkham War was pretty fun and I loved the cover. FBP was a pretty solid issue and did a good job of building Rosa's character up. I also read Three, which seems to have gone under peoples radar, but I've really been enjoying it. Minimum Wage was decent, despite feeling I was looking into a mirror, lol. Also read The Phantom Stranger which was ok, and had some great art in a few panels. Black Widow wasn't really my thing, not got round to reading Detective 27 yet. Finally I got my fix of mild titillation and violence with Painkiller Jane #3 (please don't judge me)

Checked out All-New X-Factor #1 and I must say, it's a good starting point. "But Chris, it's a #1. What else could it be?" And to you, imaginary questioner, I scoff. Scoff scoff. Fool me once Big Two, with your "no need to read anything else to enjoy this book," shame on you. Fool me twice...we'll, I think you get it.
So, I was hesitant to check out the new title for two major reasons. First, when we're talking about Peter David's X-Factor, we're talking about 250 plus issues of backstory. Second, other than his role in the awesome, yet difficult to watch now X-Men cartoon, circa 1992, I know next to nothing about Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit. You know, other than he's a pretty big joke, per the internet.
Ultimately my concerns were unwarranted. Yes, references are made to previous story lines, but those references never stood in place of characterization and the story clearly doesn't hinge on those references. Additionally, it's made plain that this is indeed an All-New X-Factor. As far as Remy, he seems to be a version of that "tramp" from the good ol days of my X-Men initiation. He's a bit of a screwup with a temper and is doing what he can to find his role in life. I can dig it.
I was lucky enough to be gifted the first issue of the series by our own Dead_Anchoress and it was much appreciated. I definitely plan to see where this first story line takes us and decide after that if the series is right for me. Not much about the comic itself, you say? I'd say you probably know as much about the plot as you need to. It may be the new era of the corporate superhero team, but something's not right at Serval Industries.

I picked up Detective Comics #27 (price wise it hurt) and was mixed on the stories inside to be honest. I enjoyed Brad Meltzer and Bryan Hitch's re-telling of the first Batman story, didn't like Old School which was Gregg Hurwitz and Neal Adams story, maybe it was the mood I read it in but I felt like it was hard to pin point exactly what was going on. Better Days by Peter J. Tomasi and Ian Bertram just a great story of Batman's future even if I wasn't completely sold on Bertram's art. Francesco Francavilla's story felt like it was missing a lot, I wasn't entirely sure what the point of the story was, other than Francavilla's pretty art. The Sacrifice by Mike Barr and Guillem March was possibly my favourite story, but maybe that's because I love those Christmas Carol style stories. John Layman and Jason Fabok's story was interesting and makes me want to read it, when the trade Gothtopia trade comes out I'll be sure to pick it up. Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy's story was a bit off beat, but still a great read, and I really liked Sean Murphy's art which I had never seen before. The pin-ups between the story were great too. I'm loving the Jock one and the one by the Alreds. /essay I agree with you, with a couple of caveats: -Ian Bertram's art was so great. -I'm not very interested in Gothtopia. Adding to what you said: the Snyder story reminded me of Grant Morrison lite. It was cool, but kind of underwhelming. Pretty good issue overall, but I think I hyped it up too much in my head.

I agree with hyping it up too much, I think I did too. I just thought that Ian Bertram's art was a little busy for me, he uses a lot of lines on the body and in the face which I thought was a little distracting, other than that I liked it.

I really wanted to pick up Detective Comics this week but my budget didn't really allow it, so I was thinking about picking it up next week but wasn't sure. I'm afraid that I hyped it up too much as well. Hopefully I'm more leveled now that I'm not expecting more than that.

Manifest Destiny #3 and FBP #7 were top issues for me. Haven't read everything yet but working through the pile.

All-New X-Factor didn't really do anything for me and I was disappointed by that fact it wasn't bad I just didn't really care for it. I am however going to give it 2 or 3 more issues first. Revolutionary War: Alpha was good but hopefully the next part by Kieron Gillen is a little better. Tried Rachel Rising #1 and thought it was really good so I'll get a few more this week. Also Batwing #27 would of made NO sense to me if I hadn't read Detective Comics #27 so I'm pretty glad that I did as it made both Gothtopia parts pretty sweet. Nice how its not just a straight up alt reality deal and that the current Batwing story is still progressing throughout this "detour"

Sex Criminals was great, Black Widow is very promising, but my favorite book this week was Manifest Destiny #3. Its on a fast track to my top 10 of 2014 list, there are some very cool concepts being tossed around there. From the buffalo/minotaur/centaur beasts to the flora zombies this is definitely a title to keep an eye on this year.

So far this year (even though it's not very long) my favorite cover has to be Manifest Destiny #3. It's so creepy and well done!

For me it was between Afterlife With Archie, Black Widow or Quantum and Woody. But there were a ton of great books
